Of course it depends on your opinion of the manager. Hodgson rated PFK enough to buy him but that wasn't worth anything to me or to you.

So perhaps you don't think much of Mourinho's and Ancelotti's views on players. However, Ancelotti's comment in particular is a very clear assessment, not on Cole's talent per se, but on his ability or willingness to do what his manager requires. Surely that's something none of us can judge for ourselves but that he has direct experience of.

Anyway whatever your views on Ancelotti and Mourinho and Cole and Benayoun, the broader issue here is, it seems to me, that it makes it very difficult to discuss things if one's interlocutor chooses to ignore contrary opinions, no matter how close to the issue the source may be.
I'm not ignoring their opinions, i just disagree with them.

By the logic you're posting, we should maybe not disagree with any manager's judgment on any player, because they know more about professional footballers and football than anyone and everyone on here.

Where does that leave Roy Hodgson and his 35 years experience?

And what about when managers get it wrong, or, god forbid, disagree with EACH OTHER? What a quandry that puts us in

I'm genuinely stunned that you seem to be implying that, because Mourinho and Ancelotti didnt rate Cole, i should just change my own view on him. If you're not suggesting that, then fair enough, but it seems to be implied.
