Kenny Dalglish plays straight bat on Liverpool FC future

Kenny Dalglish has insisted that he will not fuel speculation over plans to extend his stay as Liverpool manager.

Fenway Sports Group, the club's American owners, are expected to hand the 60-year-old a full-time contract this summer following his currently brief return to the Anfield helm.

But the Kop boss maintains a straight bat and insists that there is nothing new to report.

“I've nothing to say on the contract situation,” he said.

“As we've said before, if we have anything to say we'll tell everybody at the same time. But if somebody wants to speculate that's up to them.

“The people that are going to offer me the contract will be the first person to get an answer.

“I don't see any reason whatsoever for me to add to speculation in any way, shape or form.

He added: “I think we've been straight with you all along; straight with the press. I don't think there's been a problem and I don't anticipate any problems.

“As soon as I know or we have something to say, everybody will know at the same time.

I'm sure there will continue to be speculation, one way or another.

“We can't stop that until there's a conclusive answer.”

Dalglish left Anfield in February 1991 under the strain of the aftermath of the Hillsborough.

At memorial service to mark the 22nd anniversary of the tragedy, Steve Rotheram MP announced plans to table an Early Day Motion in Parliament to have the Reds manager awarded a knighthood in recognition of the work he has undertaken with the victims' families.

And the ever-humble Dalglish admits that he is flattered by the latest potential honour to be awarded to him following an illustrious career, as both player and manager, which saw him collect 41 major honours in both England and Scotland.

“It's very flattering but I don't think Marina is that bad a person to live with!” he joked.

“I just go about my work and do the best I can.

“If somebody wants to do things that are out of my control then it's up to them, but It is very flattering.

“But I don't think I'll be carried away with it.”

That would be great as I was starting to get the feeling he wouldn't be getting the job. Not because the owners didn't want him, but because HE didn't want it..............

                Glad to be proved wrong.
                Forwards.......

I've no idea who he is or where he's got this from. Hope it's true.

Just a gut feeling tbh. He always said he'd step in and help us in crisis, but there's less and less mention from him wanting it for the long term of late. It's just a feeling though, I of course have no way of knowing either way.

Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish has finally agreed to become permanent manager of the club.

Dalglish took temporary charge of the club after Roy Hodgson was removed in January.

There has been constant speculation that the former Liverpool striker would agree to a second spell as full-time boss, Reports suggest.

Dalglish, 60, settled terms on a deal believed to cover the next three seasons.

The Liverpool owners are also close to agreeing a permanent three-year contract with Anfield No 2 Steve Clarke.
