            Then he'll surely get it.

I'm sure FSG had their eye on a younger coach when they came in, hence Roy survived for so long. They obvioulsy knew that if Kenny did well he'd take some moving.

And so it proves. That said, it's a great situation for them. Kenny has done a great job so there is no risky appointment for them to stand or fall by. It's a positive sitation for them really.

Liverpool FC owners ready to spend big this summer, says Dalglish

Kenny Dalglish has revealed that Liverpool's owners are ready to make a significant warchest available to buy players this summer.

Fenway Sports Group figurehead John Henry has previously expressed his alarm at the lack of dearth within the senior ranks at Anfield, hinting that a squad overhaul could be on the cards.

And although Dalglish remains non-committal on claims that he will handed the manager's role permanently following the conclusion of the current campaign, he gave the strongest indication yet that the Americans are planning to invest heavily in players during the close season.

He said: “I think I get asked this every day and it's the same answer – if we've something to report to you, we will report it.

“But certainly regards the owners, they are fully committed to bringing in new faces in the summer and spending money on the playing staff.

“So whoever has got the privilege to manage the club is going to also have the privilege of spending some money.”

Yesterday's draw with Arsenal has almost certainly given fierce rivals Manchester United the upper hand in the race for the Barclays Premier League title and their quest to overtake Liverpool's long-standing record of 18 championships.

But Dalglish has refuted suggestions that Liverpool's stature has dwindled despite 21 years separating them from their last domestic triumph, and believes that the club remains one of the best in England and possibly globally.

“In my eyes they're still the best club in English, if not world football,” he insisted.

“The only surprise is that they've not won a title for a long time, but I don't think it's sadness. It's just a fact of life that they never acquired enough points in any season since 1990 to win it.

“Rafa [Benitez] went really close to winning it a couple of years ago, with a fantastic record against the so-called top four, but just couldn't get it over the line.

“It would be fantastic to get back there but to get back there you've got to reach the standards that the other clubs have set.

“In the four games against United, City, Arsenal and Chelsea, we've only dropped two points and that was yesterday.”

I wonder if there are any Liverpool fans out there who don't want him to get the job now.

Who knows how it will pan out long term with him at the helm, but (ignoring who he is and his history) he absolutely deserves to be given at proper go at it, just for the way he has turned us from a laughing stock (are your ears burning Roy? ) into a team who handed out beatings to both Manc teams, Chelsea, and got a deserved draw at Arsenal with an understrength team*.

There are a good few who want Mourinho still, which I find absolutely mind boggling despite his success prior to this season's very ordinary work.
