I'd like to see us stick a couple of them on the bench anyway (only the ones that are genuinely near the first team though), and bring them on if we're a couple of goals up. Probably little difference between them and some of our other players, and at least they should have some hunger/desire.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

To be fair, nor should Wilson.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostI think the options are either:- Aurelio LB & Johnson RB
- Wilson LB & Johnson RB
- Johnson LB & Carragher RB
I expect to see all 3 before the end of the season, I would prefer the first one but Aurelio is unlikely to be fit that often. I'd expect the 3rd option for the bigger games and perhaps the second option for some of the others.
Agger at LB shouldn't be considered IMO unless we are desperate.

I agree Wilson clearly isn't a left back. But it seems likely that he will be considered an option there for the rest of the season to give him some experience of the Premiership, as Kenny has been doing so far. I included this option because I think it's likely to happen, and there are some benefits in employing it (giving Wilson first team experience). There are no such benfits from playing Agger at LB, and thus far Kenny hasn't played him there so IMO it's unlikely to happen.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostTo be fair, nor should Wilson. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

If you've done your hamstring you've done your hamstring.
He has had similar problems as Gerrard in terms of growing pains which have hindered him at that age.
After that he's had a groin injury and a hamstring injury, most likely through having to be over played at his age.
Look at players like Giggs & Gerrard at a similar age for injuries

I worry about a Wilson a lot though his defensive positioning is very poor, his tackling has been poor and for a ball playing CB, his use of the ball is also very poor.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostI agree Wilson clearly isn't a left back. There is a massive disadvantage to playing Wilson, in that his defensive ability is of serious concern. He simply isn't good enough to play for us at present.

he seriously needs to up his game - playing against Braga they were constantly targeting Wilson as a liability.

He certainly appears he still has some way to go to make it Anfield, I'd be happy to see him come on and get game time when we're in a position to do so i.e. 2 up with 20 minutes to go, but after the game at Wham where he had a bit of a shocker (along with several others) it might do his long term confidence harm if it were to happen again.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostI worry about a Wilson a lot though his defensive positioning is very poor, his tackling has been poor and for a ball playing CB, his use of the ball is also very poor.

I mean listening to Gerrard on Sunday talking about his debut against Ginola where he was taken off after 50 odd minutes, and it was like boys against men -

Just my opinion but again I think his positioning errors are due to him playing in an unfamiliar position, I think that you could also argue the same for his use of the ball. When I watch him play left back I think he is hesitant in whether he should go forward or not, and when he does I don't think he realises how far back he has to get to perform his defensive duties. In my opinion he isn't a left back, but given our lack of options I see him playing there again before the end of the season.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostI worry about a Wilson a lot though his defensive positioning is very poor, his tackling has been poor and for a ball playing CB, his use of the ball is also very poor.

How he would perform in his prefered centre back role I don't know - as we haven't really seen him there, I will reserve judgement on him until I have seen him play at CB. I'm hoping we don't need to use him there this season. I would hope that next season we could get him a loan spell at a Premiership club and see how he does. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Yeah - he's still young so with time and experience.. I did notice that he was dragged well out of position (at centre back) a couple of times by Brazil yesterday in the short time he was on - looked like he was ball watching too much.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostJust my opinion but again I think his positioning errors are due to him playing in an unfamiliar position, I think that you could also argue the same for his use of the ball. I think you have to give a 19 or 20 year old time, too many people are keep to make judgements before a player has finished developing. For example Djourou at Arsenal looked a bit of a mess until this season when he has looked excellent when he has played."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."
