What he has going for him is that he can play either side. He'll be an invaluable squad member and will get himself 15-20 games a season. If he's happy with that I can see him being given plenty of time to developOriginally posted by Pablo1981 View PostI don't think he'll ever be that good to be honest.

I do think Flanagan will develop further and could become a permanent fixture. It all depends on what Rodgers wants from his players.Originally posted by vlahka View PostI'm guessing you disagree with that? He's a little rough but he proves he can hold back quality players at times and put in some excellent tackles. More people run past Johnson then they do Flanagan and most here seem to think Johnson is quality.
We seem to be flip flopping between Flanagan and Shaw and I wasn't sure to whom you were referring! Was muß, das muß.

No. Just no.Originally posted by baitman View Post............
flannel is a very decent defender, he does chip in with the odd forward runs but i feel he doesnt want to be the one to get caught out by trying to be too offensive. i prefer him to be more solid in his defensive duties.

He actually does but imo he is more effective when he is playing as a LB and cuts inside.Originally posted by SB View PostNot trying to put a downer on our great win today but I just don't think he offers ANYTHING in an attacking sense & I think his place could come under scrutiny. Johnson & Cissokho maybe?
Anyway, let's enjoy the win.
Compared to all healthy fullbacks we currently have only GJ gives us more offensively but I have to say that Flanno stepped in very nicely since we lost Enrique and when GJ was hurt.
Cannot see him being first choice fullback next year but he is young and he will develop and get better.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

Oh I agree that he's done well defensively stepping in to cover & may improve the offensive side of his game. But at present he couldn't hit the side of a barn with his passes in the final 3rd. I really can't see him being a 1st choice player for us going forward. I hope I'm wrong as I doike the lad.Originally posted by Mostar View PostHe actually does but imo he is more effective when he is playing as a LB and cuts inside.

If that's the case why do we play wing backs to offer width?Originally posted by vlahka View PostWe're doing pretty good offensively and most of our players prefer the ball at their feet than crossed in from out wide. Our biggest issue is defence. He does a good job on his side and unlike Johnson actually tracks back pretty quickly instead of just lazily jogging back.

You could also ask the question how many goals our players have scored from running the ball through the centre compared to oncoming crosses. I've seen Sturridge and Suarez both get upset when the ball isnt given to their feet. I dont think we need the wingback system.Originally posted by SB View PostIf that's the case why do we play wing backs to offer width?
