Yep, and as crazy as it may sound, I do totally understand his moments of madness.

He's clearly not mentally ill as he lives his life perfectly normally. To my knowledge he's never done anything wrong, mad or crazy in real life/off the pitch. It's football that drives him to do mad things. He is an intriguing psychological case. He needs to get help and then be open about it. Speak publicly and openly about it. I know people who've met him - a few journos - and they all say he's genuinely one of the very nicest, softest and most accommodating blokes in the game.

I've seen him being criticised by other journalists for never accepting any wrongdoing but that's bollocks - after the Ivanovic bite he grovelled big time.

He needs to grovel again, and then some. Get proper help, let us in, and show people that he's a good man who has a problem when he crosses the white line.

He is a man more privileged than most now, who has already found out that biting is unacceptable twice before. He has nobody to blame but himself and he is capable of controlling himself, he made it through last season without any stupid incidents. The outrage is over the sheer stupidity of him doing it three times.

The argument about 'i'd rather be bitten than kicked' is childish.

I have never seen a worse pundit than Danny Mills. He is utterly pathetic in his analysis of this situation and most footballing topics imo.
No, probably not mentally ill, but he could be dealing with some behavioural maladjustments or troubles, that's different. He can not take a pill for his behaviour but probably can't fully control it either. He would maybe benefit from therapy, maybe not, but it would be the right thing to do IMO. Politically, from the clubs point of view and his own, I think it would be best if apologised and promised to use Pieters or what ever counseling available.

Thankfully the English medias stock within FIFA is at an all time low so they'll pay no attention to their current hysteria. If anything FIFA will probably be lenient just to make the media's heads explode for a laugh

Pretty much what I was trying to say, there is something wrong but it's clearly on a developmental level, attachment or behavioural. It can be even more difficult to treat and control though. Punishing him is clearly having no effect so why not try to help him, and do it in an open way so people can see he's trying. It's his best shot IMO.

I'm not sure I understand....not the instinct to bite. I understand that it is a part of - as I always call it - his demented and unhinged will to win. It's part of what makes him so good. A cliche but it's true. I've never seen a player like him, ever, in terms of ability and his way of playing, and more to the point his will to win. I find it infectious, fascinating and thrilling.

Can't defend his actions in this at all, whatever ban he gets he's completely brought this on himself and he's not going to getting any slack from the media over here after this latest transgression and again he's brought that upon himself as well.

As a club we should support him of course but he needs some sort of help as this is far from normal behaviour, I do wonder if there will be some sort of special case made against him by FIFA or the English FA; would be a great story to keep away from England's utter failure over in Brazil

yeah the instinct to bite is beyond me -

the only other people i know to 'bite' someone are

                    1 - Mike Tyson - proper nutter

2 - some lad who moved to our school from Bootle, proper rough scally, got into fights and bit someones ear off

it's mental - whats more mental is to go and do it after all the **** thats gone before, all his 'im treated unfairly by the english press' (which i felt maybe bias but he was) and playing for his beloved country at the world cup, he goes and does it again - it's ****ing nuts simple as - there is no excuse or defending it
i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

The main reason I am gutted he did this is because he proved the papers like The Scum right with their recent front page. He should not give them this ammo to attack him, reason enough to show some restraint on the pitch. However, he obviously has a threshold of tolerance on the field....once he is beyond that anything can happen! He has a crazy streak, most genius players do. Time will heal this one again and I just hope he is still with us come August.
