As always....nice to see Alberto imposing himself on a game (probably fair to say it was his best performance since joining, depressingly enough), but pre-season games are no indication of how things are going to go when the real stuff starts IMO.

His best game by far was against Atleti when he scored at Anfield. We ended up losing on away goals because Johnson lost his head for a minute but he immense that day.

Aquilani did really well had a hand in just about every goal in 2nd half. Really hope we keep him while I dont think he will start very often I thing he can do a job when called upon.

Atletico was one but he also had more than few better games at the end of 2009/10 than what he showed today

Haway man, Fredo. I'd be staggered if at any point of next year our defence is Kelly, Soto, Wilson and Insua with Poulsen sitting deep. We'll not concede the way our pre season games imply we will.

Spot on. It's probably the key part of any team where it pays dividends to have settled partners/back line, especially the two centrals in that back line, get that right...and play them together week in week out and you won't go far wrong.

Defences made up of players that don't play regualry together will always be prone to mistakes, or making wrong decisions based on what you think your fellow defender will do..or not do. .

we need to put this into perspective. it is a preaseason friendly and players are finding their fitnedd. thats the whole point of preseasons.

the other thing is promoting the lfc brand in the far east and one sided games where it ends 6 nil or whatever isnt a way to make friends over there. arsenal came and won 4 nil but the malaysian football fans will be talking about the liverpool game much more because the malaysians were init for long periods ans scored 3 goals against liverpool.

there was something in it for us and crucially theres something in it for them. thats why john henry said the late guangdong goals were beautiful and its a way of making more fans and more friends commercially.

Another good warm up. Players looked a bit sharper in the final third and Aquilani was excellent (again). Big difference doing it in the PL but I think he will rise to the challenge and more importantly fit into our system/style of play. Fingers crossed now that even JWH is backing him he will not be sold.

It seems clear to me that players like Wilson and Shelvey should be available for long term loans. Given the squad we have I think they will struggle to progress this season. Infact I am not even sure they have long term futures here.
