I was impressed by Sam Magri at center back (on trial from Portsmouth, apparently also a youth international), hope we sign him.

If Liverpool don't make the final it should be a decent game anyway.

Liverpool Reserves secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Wigan at Robin Park on Thursday afternoon thanks to a Michael Ngoo brace.

Rodolfo Borrell's side put in a confident performance to overcome Graham Barrow's men and stay third in the Barclay's Premier Reserve League North.

Ngoo went closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half when he hit the post on 44 minutes.

But the forward was composed as he put the Reds ahead after the interval. Raheem Sterling was played in down the right side of the Wigan penalty area and he picked-out the forward at the far post who steered the ball home.

On 76 minutes, Ngoo bagged his second after he powered his way down the wing, cut inside and slotted past former Red Chris Kirkland from the edge of the six-yard box.

        Any highlights of this match?

          Ngoo.

                From TLW:

'Jagielka (280ish senior club appearances, 10 England Senior caps, 6 under 21 caps), Rodwell (80 senior club appearances, 2 England Senior caps, 20 under 21 caps), Osman (270ish senior club appearances), McFadden(250ish senior club appearances, 48 Scotland Senior caps), Coleman (60ish senior club appearances, 5 Ireland Senior caps, 13 under 21 caps), Anichebe (100ish senior club appearances, 11 Nigeria Senior caps, 5 under 23 caps), Barkley (5 senior club appearances, 4 England under 21 caps).

Then you have their keeper Mucha (130ish senior club appearances, 32 Slovakia Senior caps), and Duffy (23 senior club appearances, 6 Republic of Ireland under 21 caps, 3 Northern Ireland under 21 caps).

We had Brad Jones with about 100 Senior appearances and 3 Aussie caps, and Eccleston with about 40 Senior appearances, and I think that might be it, and most of the lads still available for the under 19s.'

That shows the difference between the two teams in terms of experience yet quality wise we battered them.

At the back we were just as strong as them as both Sama and Wisdom handled Anciebe well plus even Mendy was winning the physical duel with him.

Upfront and we just have skill, pace and creativity in abundance and it was a joy to watch the kids showing such ability on the ball and vision to spot some sublime through balls.

It shouldn't be under estimated how good a job the Academy staff are doing and we have some real talent currently on the books and really looking forward to how they develop over the coming years.

How good is the center back Wisdom. Only 18 apparently. Comparing him and an experienced international in Jagielka today. Andre looked the better player. Has everything in his locker. Very impressive player

I didn't watch the game today but Andre is as you said a very decent prospect. He is very good on the ball too and he could easily play in Midfield or Right back.

We were so much better, but the game still finished 0-0. We have to put an end to this, at youth level already. Otherwise it's the same **** all over again.

I can't help feeling that people tend to read to much into the experience gulf. for me it is most likely that first team players being given a run out are playing much less than flat out. The trouble with reserve level football is that it is very hard to judge players and you do wonder how much good the games do players. players like Wisdom and Sterling need to be getting properly competetive match experience IMO.

Wisdom is easily our best centreback but that's not praising him rather rueing the alternatives we have. He's a born captain/leader and is the life and party in the changing room, probably a bit like Reina.

He's very strong, very quick on the ground, can pass the ball out and generally holds the backline together well. He defends by staying on his feet and scaring the opposing player into dispossession. His only flaws I've seen are concentration over 90 minutes and occasional positional awareness. But these are not as bad as they appear in ink and as he gains experience these should disappear.

Does anyone have any idea what the match attendance is likely to be for the NextGen U19's semi-final at Langtree Park? The crowd was just over 3,000 for the quarter final at WHL.

Agree on all counts. What to do with him though. You rarely see and 18-19 year start regularly at center back for a top premier league club. With Skrtel/Agger and Coates all ahead of him, what will the future hold for Wisdom. I'd hate to see him never given a chance and continually playing reserve football for the next 2-3 seasons. Is it a case of loaning him out to a championship club over the next 2 season or so and letting him gain experience.

Surely Wisdom (and a few others) are at the point where we should be looking to loan them out to a Championship or League 1 club where they could get some first team experience.
