    I don’t think so.

.... depends on how you look at it Shaggy.

We all know in this day and age that there are some less than desireables in our midst, and to me I m sure they were there in the halcyon days.

But, the reputation of Anfield, and LFC of being something more than the regular run of the mill football ground experience, should be strived toward being maintained.

If we don t have that, then it diminishes the fabric of what ties us together - don t you think ?

I do, yes. It's a tricky one this.

Even then in the 60s we had old guys saying the Kops not what it used to be.
Had never seen that clip thanks again.

.... puts things in a bit of perspective when you read that, but then the corporatisation of football and the mindset of fans which comes from current day media should still be fought against.

Nicked from that celtic forum, these should be in this thread

It's all very well for the 60's and 70's lot. They were slaughtering sides week in, week out. Scoring goals, playing superb football.

We're forced to watch long diagonal balls up to a hit and miss striker and constant, CONSTANT underachievement.

Speaking as one who was going to Anfield in the 60s (in particular) and the 70s, you're painting a picture of a golden age that simply didn't exist (rather like the self-appointed RTK busybodies).

There were many, many games with a crap atmosphere and our football, pre-1973 was very basic. We went 7 years between 1966 and 1973 without winning a single trophy and were delighted to qualify for the UEFA Cup each year. We weren't slaughtering teams week in, week out unfortunately. That really was a period of underachievement.

After we were given the complete runaround by the great Red Star Belgrade side in 1973's European Cup - it was embarrassing to watch - Shankly (who was to retire not too much later) realised that we would have to adopt the European approach of slow build up from the back, keeping possession and trying to draw the opposition out. Prior to that our football was very direct and very naive, 100 mph stuff - all English clubs played like that. One of my abiding memories of the return leg against Red Star, having lost 2-1 away (we were lucky it wasn't 5-0) is of Ian Callaghan running to three players in the midfield in turn who were passing the ball round him in a triangle. Poor old Cally was knackered as they just stroked the ball to each other - taking the piss really. Somehow we only lost that game 2-1, but they completely outclassed us and were just strolling round the pitch - men against boys stuff.

It makes me laugh to hear people moaning about the current team and its playing style. You don't know you're born.

Bring back Tony Hateley and Jack Whitham, even John Toshack.

Not only superb football and slaughtering teams every week, but I copped off with a gorgeous Bird every week as well - and STILL had change from 10 Bob.

New stadium, both ends, no roof, standing only would be nice.
No food on sale, why can't people survive for 2 hours without eating???There are shops, cafes, etc in Liverpool, eat before the match

                        Then the atmosphere would change

(Waits for the inevitable slating )
It's not so much people going for food mate. It's those who get tanked up before the match and then are up and down all match like a whore's drawers. Like half a dozen season ticket holders in row 28 or 29 Lower Centenary up the Anfield Road end. I wish they'd stay in the bog all afternoon with a portable.

Dunno who the Kop was reclaimed by yesterday, but it was pitifully quiet for a derby.

Funny atmos wasn't it. I didn't have the usual derby day feeling at all. By the noise of the crowd I wasn't the only one who felt that.

The most exciting moment of the day was when me Dad realised he'd brought his wallet instead of his season ticket and we had a race against time to get him a replacement and got in just before kick off.
