Games like this are always difficult if the opposition go in front as they have something to defend and will likely park the bus as we saw today, if we'd got an early goal they wouldn't have been able to sit back as much and ot would have perhaps been an easier game to win.

If we had Gerrard instead of Henderson today I feel we would have won. If things stay as they are I'd be tempted to call Chelsea in January and offer them Carroll for 30m. We need a poacher like Sturridge.

Well, TBH, I wouldn't trust BBC's stats (or Sky's for that matter)...just interested to know really, as it didn't feel that way unless they have some strange method of calculating possession.

We held the ball, but it looks a little high IMO, especially considering the stop-start play Stoke had going.
Felt like closer to 60-63% really.
Not that its important anyway, as the only one that matters is goals I suppose.

So what's the answer? To buy a clinical goalscorer. As Suarez has shown this season he is awesome but not lethally clinical. Won't even bother mentioning our other strikers.

Clattenburg was demoted at some point no? I think he went into the ref's purgatory for a year and it's his comeback this year if I'm not mistaken?

my concern this season is that when we go behind in a match, we won't have the leaderships or the oneness of mind in the team in the absence of gerrard to prevent the match getting beyond us. so far it doesn't look like we are a team that is able to respond with anything but huffing and puffing. that will come with time, but hopefully kenny can sort something out here in the dressing room, because i don't think we're capable of sorting out a big push when we're on the field quite yet.

He got demoted due to favouring us. Demento had his say and off he went to the lowly paid Championship. He's learnt his lesson and will give us nothing going forwards, Demento's done his bit.

I could be wrong, but I think some places calculate possession stats only out of time the ball is in play (usually about 65mins), some over the entire 90 mins. I wouldn't be surprised if that accounts for the differential.

I don't think there's an easy answer, it's easy to say "we need to take our chances" or "we need to score when we're on top", but the players aren't missing chances on purpose. Perhaps we need to work on our finishing and composure in front of goal, encourage people to follow up more. I don't know.
