Not that great IMO. Hyypia was our real leader and organiser and Carra hasn't even been close to be able to replace his leadership qualities on the pitch.

Add in Hamman and Agger too. Carragher has been a good defender in a certain type of defensive system, in which a lot of very good players contributed. Take Carragher out of that system, where he has to be more independent and his value diminishes greatly. He hasn't got the attributes necessary to be considered a great player; just a good one in a favourable (to him) system.

I was looking at Carragher's hoofs today, and I noticed the circumstances around them tended to be him being under pressure and having no full back outside to play a simple ball to. In fairness to him, on the majority of occasions today there was no other safe option available to him.

This is just an observation based on today alone, has anyone else noticed if this is the case in other games? I'm not trying to defend him or his hoofs I'm wondering what the reasons behind them are.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I think Dudek was more instrumental in that win, but I wouldn't have him anywhere near our top goalkeepers.

          How am I trolling?

he plays the percentages. there are times he shouldn't launch it, but most of the time today he had very little options.

It's a bit silly to question his past, he's been a colossus for us. Unfortunately, football is a short career and time has caught up with Carra.

He is great player but only in defence. He is rubbish when it comes down to the attacking bits and always been that. He is a so called out and out defensive defender.

Can a team afford to have such a player in the team? A player that contributes nothing in attack and is rubbish starting up attacks.

Well Benitez turned him in to a centre half so blame him.

Carra does need to be replaced but to say he WAS a poor player and not a legend is the most rediculous thing i have ever heard. Carra in his prime was a great defender and you don't play along side Sami for years if you are poor.

Carra's decline has been the past 2 years or so and the time is now to start the phase him out the team slowly.

change the ****ing record, you must have cut and pasted this sentence over and over. you probably have it written in blood all over your cell.

you don't rate him, we get it. He's growing old, it happens. he isn't franco baresi, we know.

I'm wondering how often this is the case, I haven't paid that much attention before to be honest I have tended to think he hoofs the ball far too much without looking at the reasons.

But if he plays 5 hoofs up field in a match and each time he had no other option that's different from choosing to hoof the ball up field when there are other options available. The former suggests something is wrong with the way we set up or that hoofing is a necessity, the latter just shows he likes a good hoof Before today I'd always assumed the latter

Carra was obviously instrumental in that team and in that entire European campaign.

"I don't really see why such a poor footballer is regarded as a such a legend"

670 odd games for the club, arguably the best defender in Europe for several seasons, and you don't get why he's a club legend? I fully agree that his time is running out fast, and his deficiencies as a player have become more obvious as he's hit the wrong side of 30, but there is no need at all to diminish the role he has played for us over the last decade +
