Milan, Juventus, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Lyon, Liverpool, Arsenal, M.Utd, Chelsea, Bayern Munich.

Out of those, the two favourites are Chelsea and Barca. Fair enough.

We are definitely second tier with Milan, Lyon and United.

I'd put teams like Arsenal, Bayern, Juventus and Real in the third.

Sorry mate i just don't like you really.

I find your pessimistic *ahem* 'realistic' nature rather annoying, and I don't see how you could realistically class Liverpool in a group of teams you don't find likely to win the competition.

              Jesus Christ.

You're surely, SURELY, not actually arguing that it's likely we'll win the competiton this season, are you ?

Let's track back for a second, I suggested there are eleven sides which have the capacity to win the competiton this season, in which I included Liverpool. A fair statement, no doubt you'll agree ? I then said Chelsea and Barca were the two outstanding favourites, again, realistic and fair, with me so far ?

I then stated there were four sides Man United, Real Madrid, Lyon and AC Milan that had more of a chance than us to lift the Cup in May, after that, we had as good a chance as anyone. Madrid have won it 9 times and have a much, much better squad than us, likewise AC Milan, who have won it 6 times. Now, you clealy took issue with Lyon and Man Utd being added to my list, allow me to argue my corner.

Man Utd currently have a better squad than us and a better first eleven. *Gulp* Yes, as much as it pains me to say it, they're in much better shape than us, as our recent meeting at Old Trafford and the league table should lend considerable evidence towards. There can be no argument here.

Lyon are a tricky one, it would fascinating to see us meet them for numerous reasons, not least because our styles are so different, but nonetheless, the way they dismantled Real Madrid suggests to me they still mantain a greater chance of winning the trophy, than ourselves.

I have never bought this half arsed theory that 'the best side does not always win the competiton'. Please allow me to demythologise it for you.
Apart from Porto and ourselves, the best sides DO usually win the competition. During the last ten years the 'best' (ie' bookmakers favourite) side has won the competiton seven times. Barcelona were the best side last year, Milan were the best side in 2003, Madrid in 2002, Munich in 2001, the list goes on....

So, basically, I've said there are six sides in Europe more likely to win the Champions league than us, that's not pessemistic at all, if anything, it's a fairly generous comment. I'm saying we're the 7th best side in Europe, joint with Arsenal, Valencia and a couple of others....

Righty then *cracks nuckles* - let's have a look at this -

Firstly, yes I think we have a good chance of wining the comp this year.

I don't think Chelsea and Barca are the favorites - How many times has a team won the the champs league twice on the trot? So I think it would be highly unlikely for Barca to win it again.

I don't understand Chelsea's high position on your list, considering they've had problems the last few seasons in this competition, I wouldn't rank them any higher than the likes of us or Ac Milan etc. They might be the bookies favourites, but one of them isn't even in a position to qualify for the next round yet.

Disagree with the fact you say Man U have a better first 11 than us, sure we played them and lost but our performance was well below par, and wasn't a true reflection of our abilities. Look how close the last 3 meetings previously were, and we now have Dirk coming into form, and a more settled 11. Don't know were you've pulled Madrid from, what the fook have they done since 2003. They've started to perform a bit better this season, but this surely doesn't qualify them to be placed any higher than us.

You also listed Madrid and Ac Milan's past success of 9 and 6 trophies, well surely our 5 placing us 3rd in the all time winners list would have us in a group with them going by that formula.

haven't a clue where you have pulled Lyon from, I assume that's just a hunch on your part, because they are a good side, but have no evidence of going far in this comp.

So like I said originally all those teams above are favorites along with Valencia, Milan, Bayern, Arsenal - and whoever else makes the last 16.

There will be 16 top teams by this stage of the competition and ANY of them can win it. So mainly I take issue with your groupings, and your inability to be even the least bit optimistic about our chances.
