If we were in the CL this season

How do you think we'd do/be doing?

Obviously the mancs got to the final last year and may do so again, but as silly as it sounds, i'm not sure the english clubs are anywhere near as dominant as they were a few years ago.

With that in mind, and looking at the games the other English sides have had thus far, how would we be getting on if we were in it?

The mancs have drawn both games - i'd like to think we'd be beating Basle at Anfield, but i'm not sure we'd have won in Benfica. Probably would be taking a draw there, as the mancs got.

Chelsea beat Leverkusen at home and again, i think we'd beat them at Anfield. Away to Valencia - we'll see how Chelsea do, but i'm not sure we'd go and win there. Maybe, but could easily get beat too.

Arsenal played away in Dortmund and again, i think it could've gone either way if it had been us. Home to Olympiakos, they'll win and so would we.

City drew at home to Napoli - i honestly think we'd beat them at Anfield. Away to Munich, i think we'd do well to get a point, and would most likely lose.

It's weird because under Rafa, i never thought we'd lose, no matter where we were going. Barcelona, Madrid, Inter, whoever - i always felt confident.

Not a slight on Kenny, but i dont think i'd be so confident with away games right now, if we were in it. Partly because the team is weaker than what Rafa had during his peak time with us, and partly because i think Rafa's a better tactician and knows European football better than Kenny.

What are people's views on this?

Hopefully we'll be finding out for sure this time next year.

I also felt we were nigh on unbeatable in Europe. Fancied us to win whoever we played.

I think a lot of Reds took for granted how ****ing awesome we were in Europe, while a lot of Rafa's critics in the press massively undervalued our European successes under him.

"All well and good doing well in Europe but the league is Liverpool's bread and butter and what every LFC supporter wants!"

Amazing how little credit Rafa/LFC got for our performances in the CL. The European Cup is massive and were Europe's no.1 performing side over that period.

Spurs get to the quarters, with a more expensively assembled squad than Rafa ever had, and they're praised to the heavens for it.

Obviously depends on what group we were in, but do you really not think we'd come out of Arsenal or United's groups?

I think if we were in europe this season the results would have been fairly unpredictable. I am happy that we are not in europe this season, as indifferent results could possibly hinder the building/gelling process of the old and the new players

IMO opinion the four teams from the PL are the weakest four teams for many seasons.

scum, just are not the force they were. Teams need to realise that the bubble has burst and not to be in awe of them. Just get at them , get in their faces and the will crumble

chavs, an aging squad currently going backwards they are no the force they would like other to think they are

arse, how the quality of this squad has fallen through sales and long term injuries. Thei defence is shambollic to say the least. As an offensive unit if RVP gets injured they are up **** creek

citeh, huge squad of talented individuals. However, they struggle to play as a team on a consistent basis.

I do not think that all four teams will qualify through the group stages and I will be very surprised if any of these teams make it as far as the semi finals this season

                We'd walk United's group

                Benfica, Basel, Otelul Galati

We had harder groups in the Thursday Cup FFS.

Rafa's adventures in Europe were sneered at with a little Englander mentality by the press. He was on a hiding to nothing as soon as rotated the squad for the Djimi Traore own goal game v Burnley (he doesn't understand the magic of the FA Cup), and there were barbed comments from commentary teams and press articles about how he didn't care about the league and Europe was his priority - delivered with a "how dare he" tone and a written roll of the eyes.

He made us the best ranked team in Europe with one hand tied behind his back financially. I just wish he had come back in January with these owners to do it properly.

                    Exactly what i was thinking

I think we'd come through Arsenal's group too. Olympaikos, Dortmund and Marseille? Nothing to fear there, really.

We'd definitely struggle in a group with Munich, Villarreal & Napoli

What's Chelsea's, Valencia, Leverkusen and Genk? Hmmm...would that REALLY eliminate us?

I really ****ing hope we're in this next season, we belong

On the other hand, we thought we'd get past Braga last season Craig.

I see your valid point and raise you a Hodgson

And i know Kenny was in charge by then, but the Bodgson effect hadnt worn off properly

Plus, subconsciously, nobody really tries in the Eurodisney Cup anyway

                          I am not so sure.

We have much more depth now and imo much improved squad compared to Rafa's squad in his last season in CL.

Some CL groups are joke and I think we would easily go to the next round.
