I think only 2 groups we would struggle to move on would be A (Bayern and Cityh) and H (Barca and Milan) and possibly F (Arsenal and Borussia).Originally posted by Mattshark View PostWe'd have no chance in the CL at present and we would not get out the groups in my opinion.
If we were in any other group we should be able to get to the next round as the quality of the opposition in those is pretty poor.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

Kenny is almost a rookie when it comes down to the European cup competitions. It is very easy to forget that. He made some silly mistakes last season in the EL.
Rafa is probably the best manager out there when it comes down to setting up a tactic so his team will have a good chance to go through in Europe. He won't make his team dominate but it will have a chance against every club out there.
I think Kenny would struggle in the CL. If we had Rafa then we would get out of any of the groups without any problem IMO.
I of course back Kenny 100% but Rafa is a better manager than him without any doubt at all. How many times did you see Rafa make tactical mistakes during his time with us? 10 times? Probably not more than that. Kenny have done some silly big mistakes since he joined us and he isn't even close to be as great tactician as Rafa. He is a better man to man manager but Rafa is still the better manager.
When it comes down to Europe then Kenny don't stand a chance.Stop the cyberhate

I think Arn makes some fair points - Rafa's tactical brilliance (not even Kenny would claim to have Rafa's massive tactical nous, I don't think), Kenny being inexperienced in European competition..............but then he goes and spoils it all by saying something stupid like "Kenny have done some silly big mistakes".Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

You got to remember we'd be taking the place of a second seed in whatever group we'd be in. In which case we'd easily qualify from every group. They've all got two ****e teams in them. It's not like we'd be in with Barca, Milan & another. It'd be Barca, us & those two nobodies.
European football is a poor state at the minute. If manure avoid the two big Spanish teams, I'd fancy them to reach yet another final, with a average team.

Kenny even lost to Trelleborg in Europe when he was the manager at Blackburn and that is a one of a very few times his club played in a European competition. We was banned from doing it in the 80'.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostAnd that "Kenny don't stand a chance" in Europe.
So right now and if you look at their records in Europe then Kenny don't stand a chance. Time could change that of course but right now he don't stand a chance.
Could you see Rafa set up his team playing two against three in the middle for example and then don't do anything to correct it? That is a mistake Kenny done a few times. Could you see us not bossing the games at home? We bossed every game at home for years. We didn't collapsed like we did against Sunderland for example. We never collapsed in a game like we did against Tottenham. When we lost a game then it was almost always only by one goal.
Even when we finished outside of the European places we battled in every game. We still had a chance to win every game. We didn't play great but Rafa sat up the team to have a chance in every game. We didn't lose two games in a row in the league for months.
Kenny is still learning the league because it is a very different league compared to 10 years ago. You must play in a very different way now to be successful. Football have changed a lot the last 10 years. Look at the PL 10 years ago and compare it to how it is played now.
Clarke is a big help now the first couple of years.Last edited by Arn; 29-09-11, 12:54 PM.Stop the cyberhate

Depends on the group, really. I'm unfortunately inclined to agree though. The quality and depth of our squad has to be called into question. Particularly the way the midfield is operating, I could see the reasonable, but not quite top teams causing us a lot of grief and playing through us. It's early days in the season but there's one hell of a lot of work required.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostWe'd have no chance in the CL at present and we would not get out the groups in my opinion.

i take umbrage with the words "rafa's tactical genius" being lumbered around without the words "in europe" added on. his tactical genius was surely lacking somewhat in domestic games.
now if you take kenny's tactical nous of domestic games and merge with rafa european then bingo!
on the actual question being asked "if we were in CL league etc..." then id be pretty confident that none of the groups our domestic rivals are in would be any real hassle to progresss from. with this squad though, id say quarters would be the furthest we would get to.People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.
