I think we are definitely good enough to get through in any of these 2 groups without major difficulties:

GROUP G
Zenit St Petersburg, FC Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk, Apoel Nicosia


Next 4 would be more challanging but we still should be able to get through:

GROUP C
ManU, Basel, SC Otelul Galati, Benfica

GROUP D
Lyon, Dinamo Zagreb, Real Madrid, Ajax

GROUP E
Bayer Leverkusen, Genk, Valencia, Chelsea

GROUP F
Arsenal, Olympiakos, Marseille, Borussia Dortmund

Only group A and H I don't think we are strong enough to get through just yet.

Taking the place of the 2nd seed, which we would have. WE'd piss every one of those groups. We'd take Milan's place in Barca's group and go through easily too.

to succeed in the champions league you need very strong teams with strong defenses. add to that a couple of outstanding attacking talents and you have a recipe for champions league success.

at the moment we have the outstanding talents in gerrard and suarez but we dont have a settled defence or a strong team all round. we would probably be in the same position as we were in 2005 just with much better players.

i dont thunk we'd get past the second tier sides let alone any of the seeds. however the basis for an potentially brilliant side is there. we now need to work on the spine of the team.

I think Porto, Zenith, CSKA, Donetsk and Inter would give us a lot of problems from though first two you listed.

I think we would have a trouble in all the rest too, I would not be confident at all.

Oddly enough, when we were in the CL and doing well in the league, no one accused me of that.

We're obviously weaker now than we were then, but you're overdoing it somewhat with the idea that we'd struggle in ANY of the CL groups of this season.
