To me a dive is when someone throws himself to the ground with no contact whatsoever.

Then there's making a meal of stuff, which Suarez has done from time to time but to my recollection he has never, ever conned a referee since joining us.

This 'cheat' **** is getting so out of hand.

Everytime he has gone there has been a decent amount of contact as well. I can't really recall occasions this season where someone has just 'brushed against him' or he has gone down under minimal contact.

Also you often hear players being 'praised' for playing for fouls - I guess whether you are praised or critisised by this depends on the media agenda...
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

To me it's not just about the 'diving', which I think we all agree is the perception of others rather than fact. Luis does go down easily, but that's the modern game. My slight concern is the fact that he gets very agitated about every little thing that goes wrong. I love his passion and commitment, but I can see how to non-LFC fans it looks like he's just being a whinger, or crying wolf, and that label will stick with him if he's not careful. It looks as though it's already costing us clear decisions because refs are believing the hype - we don't want that to become the norm.

Isn't part of the issue his holding his leg like he is injured when there is a foul

Suarez, like a lot of modern players, especially Ashley Young position their body to sheild the ball, wait for the (sometimes minimal) contact then go down.
It's not cheating, it's not diving it's being professional and playing within the rules.

The difference is that the PL allows more contact than most other leagues so there are more instances and we also have the most ridiculous over the top sensationailst media that latch onto anything and make it run and run and run.

I am still amazed that Ferguson was allowed to openly criticise Suarez after the Man U game, asked a question about his team and he replied with Suarez dives all over the place??

How the **** is that allowed?? the media have ignored it because it suits their agenda to agree with him but where are the spineless FA.

What can the FA do about it? It's 'fair comment', i.e. Ferguson's opinion.

What I find more irritating and disappointing, albeit unsurprising, is how the media ran with Ferguson's comment rather than lambasting him for his defensive, small club approach which very nearly failed. Labelling Suarez a diver was a diversion for Ferguson and, as usual, the craven media pack fell for it.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

It is diving though really. And hence it is cheating, although only mildly. If someone falls over when the contact doesn't force them to fall over, they are diving.

And the lazy ****s keep repeating the idea as some kind of defacto truth.

Sports journalists are nearly all ****e. They're not even journalists at all - they don't find stuff out, they don't dig up stories, they don't try to find the truth about anything. They just write up press conferences, scribble down puff pieces and pretend they've done a forensic interview, pass on gossip and innuendo as information.

I know Garry Richardson's a tiresome, tabloidesque tit but at least he doesn't just take what some sporting figure says as gospel truth, before making an amusing joke his interviewee can laugh along with.
