2 points of 6th (Newcastle)
7 points of 5th (Chelsea)
10 points of 4th (Arsenal)
11 points of 3rd (Spurs)
Can we make the top 4? Probably not. We'd likely need to go on a massive winning run which we don't seen capable of. We're good on our day, but not good on a concistant basis which is what is required.
But a dream is never gone until it is impossible. Some of our players look to be coming good, likely too late, but it's better to be in form at the end of the season than at any other time. Arsenal hitting form will put Spurs under pressure. Chelsea winning in the CL could make them push on, which could make Spurs/Arsenal feel the pressure.
We have some winnable games. I say, win our next two league games against QPR away and Wigan at home, then let's see where we are at.
Next two league games:
Chelsea: Man City (A) and Spurs (H)
Spurs: Stoke (H) and Chelsea (A)
Arsenal: Everton (A) and Aston Villa (H).
All the teams above could quite easily drop points in both their games.
The form Arsenal are in, i cant see Villa taking anything from them at Emirates. And now we've stuffed the bitters and are 5 points ahead of them, they've **** all to play for in the league. They'll take delight in bending over for Arsenal.
I don't think Arsenal's form is that amazing tbh. They got dicked against us, dicked against spurs for half the game and had the CL win/loss combo. Their general play hasn't matched the results really. But then we're talking about Villa so that's a shoe in. I can see the bitters getting a draw from them though.
Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom- 2 years1year 0.5 years
It's very difficult to say really as so many things can change over three or five seasons.
I didn't expect us to get into the top four this year, but I did expect us to challenge until the end of the season. I thought we'd finish between 4th-6th but with it being close.
At the moment I can't see us getting back in for a few years yet, but it's difficult to say because who knows what's round the corner? Things can change very quickly in football (as we should know!)
I think if we'd had a striker then yes we would be competing for top four this season. We have a decent first team and squad, if we can offload some of the recently acquired dross and bring in cover for a number of key positions and also at least one striker then we should be competing for a top four place again.
Does anyone think we'll be back in the Champions League within say the next 5 seasons?
Looking at the situation objectively, can anyone really argue we are considerably behind United, City, Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea and Newcastle.
Based on how we've played this season (and this is reflected in the league table, we are on a par with Everton, Norwich, Fulham, Sunderland and Stoke.
We do not have a God given right to be in the Champions League and I can't see things changing soon unfortunately.
It's hard to believe how far we've regressed in such a short period of time.
yes, quite possible to make it next season we are missing a few key positions obviously a striker and one or two more there is no reason to think we can't get back into the top 4
