It's hugely oversimplified and you still don't get it....

Bollocks that. We belong in any competition we qualify for through merit, not through reputation or history.

Prestige of being in the CL is bollocks.

I will honestly despair if any of you would take the CL over winning the FA Cup. i can understand to a point the CL > League Cup argument, but over the FA Cup is madness.

It reminds me of a famous quote... 'If you are first you are first. If you are second you are nothing.'

So what does that make you if you are celebrating finishing 4th?
It is the biggest club competition in the world. Every club wants to be there, every players want to play in it. That should say everything.

I genuinely find it absolutely incredible that any supporter of any club would take winning a domestic cup over champions league qualification, IMO it is laughable to be honest, shows a complete lack of ambition.

As for the quote I dunno dude maybe you should ask the person who came up with it? The way i see it is at the moment we are not good enough to be first, and we are not good enough to be second. But we are certainly good enough to get that 4th spot. You want the glory of domestic silverware "now" just to say we won something this season, it's a very short sighted view in my opinion. Ultimately Champions league is what everyone involved at LFC wants, everything else is a bonus. The bigger picture is playing in the best club competition in the world

Or...... we could not get knocked out in the first qualifying round!! Complete and utter lack of ambition.

Yes, but we might not. (you spineless cunt). Just because it's hypothetical doesn't mean it shouldn't be considered.

Money is football, if you have no money you cannot complete. That's modern day football for you. It is a business as much as it is a game.

Can't believe the same argument is ongoing - let's get both FFS

If we managed both - which is entirely feasible - this will have been such a waste of time

Mind you it's a waste of time anyway

if its all about trophies then its preferable isnt it?

thing is we have no divine right to anything

to have a chance of having the best players we need regular ECL

long term its the best thing for the club

a trophy well thats a nice to have (as well as but not isntead of top 4)

Haha dan i bet you were all over us signing Mata last summer an all.

Have a look at my @ column on twitter (Lents123) and see the response. Trophies trophies trophies.

Cavani, Hazard and your ****ing hilarious spelling of Mario Götze are Football Manager bollocks, like most of your posts Dan. Grow the **** up.

                          drivel at best.

Winning a cup this season will also help instill a winning mentality into players and also help attracting players in the summer - players will join the club IF they believe in the project and can see what the club is trying to achieve, certainly after the years of H&G and the Bodge bringing in some domestic success would be a good good thing considering how close they took us to the edge.

Remember we had the side pulled apart and although I'd love to be in the top 4 (no reason why we can't be in that come the end of the season anyway) but LFC is about winning trophies we've not done that since 2006, far too long.

Most players want to win things, yes they want to play in the CL as well but really they want to have winners medals thats what when your career comes to an end people talk about and you remember not all those seasons you played in the CL.

                            I do.

Success for footballers is measured in titles and trophies.

Is ****ing right rcasemore. Too bad half of these wools measure success as mediocrity. Imagine aiming for 4th ****ing place. Winning is everything.

While we regard our position as 'LFC exists to win trophies' we also have to accept that the game has moved on, and that the best players want champions league football. If we are looking at players in the summer they will take more notice of us as a club that has CL football to offer, than as a club that the previous season has won the Carling Cup/FA Cup. Even if we have a decent amount of money to spend along with our rich history and tradition, the thing that will have the biggest impact on most players will be the opportunity to play CL football. This may not be something that we like, but this is the way modern football is.

I think that winning cups gives you a moment of glory, where as Champions League football gives you a more long term hope. Which is more important I guess depends on your perspective.
