I still can't believe that anyone would want to win domestic cups just to win some silverware, rather than play in the biggest club competition in the world, it's a complete no brainer for me.

The bigger picture is to get back into the champs league, surely that's what every club/top club aspires to do? It is the greatest stage for club football, all clubs want to be in it and all players want to play in it.

Winning some domestic cups is great but getting into the champions league is clearly our goal. It brings in the most revenue, keeps existing top players at the club happy playing at the highest level, makes it easier to attract other top talents to strengthen the first team and in turn helps push for the league title.

And of course the prestige of playing against the worlds best & getting LFC back to where we belong, which is competing in the top tier of european and world football. For me, i just can't understand how every LFC supporter wouldn't want that.

i think going by those comments ....... you would welcome a super league....end of the day club success is measured by trophies won!

        Where we belong?

Bollocks that. We belong in any competition we qualify for through merit, not through reputation or history.

Prestige of being in the CL is bollocks.

I will honestly despair if any of you would take the CL over winning the FA Cup. i can understand to a point the CL > League Cup argument, but over the FA Cup is madness.

It reminds me of a famous quote... 'If you are first you are first. If you are second you are nothing.'

So what does that make you if you are celebrating finishing 4th?

Considering where we are, I.e. In a transition with backing, and the progress of spurs and the struggle arsenal face, CL football now could change our course for the better for a generation. Obviously the preferred answer is CL qualification and some cups, but I'd have to say CL is the most important.

But Some trophies are a bit more prestigious than others

I have no doubts FSG & Kenny's number priority is to get LFC back into the champions league, sure if we win some trophies domestically, fantastic! But ultimately the priority will be and should be champions league football.

P.S. "I would welcome a Super league"? What the hell dude

If we fail to get CL this year it could be seen as not moving forward, compare our finish last year, we were not far off. (it ended up being 10 points with us losing our last 2 games. We were 4 points of prior to that).

I don't understand all this discussion about 4th or winning a trophy they aren't mutually exclusive we can do both.

While we regard our position as 'LFC exists to win trophies' we also have to accept that the game has moved on, and that the best players want champions league football. If we are looking at players in the summer they will take more notice of us as a club that has CL football to offer, than as a club that the previous season has won the Carling Cup/FA Cup. Even if we have a decent amount of money to spend along with our rich history and tradition, the thing that will have the biggest impact on most players will be the opportunity to play CL football. This may not be something that we like, but this is the way modern football is.

I think that winning cups gives you a moment of glory, where as Champions League football gives you a more long term hope. Which is more important I guess depends on your perspective.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Someone who thinks longer term and thinks that CL qualification now is likely to result in us improving and winning more cups in the future than we would by winning one now?

Didn't Gerrard say recently that he'd prefer to win a cup than get into 4th this season? The no brainer.

next year would be our 3rd year without CL and the 4th since reaching the knock out stages.

it really does affect the quality of players you can attract.

however as a fan obviously a piece of silverware is brill.

hoever its hard to deny the importance of the CL but its hard to to lament the fact its sucked a lot of fun from the FA cup etc

Just did a quick twitter poll and every single red that I know personally or who goes the match replied said trophies, 2 who I don't know so couldn't say if they go the game said 4th.

LFC exist to win trophies. It is THAT simple.

No, that is a massive oversimplification of modern football.

All hypothetical, we could go out in the first qualifying round.

so you would be happy if we won the carling cup every year but never got into the champs league?
