If he said that it's his preference, then I believe he means it. Why would he lie? To be honest I was surprised as I'd have thought he would say that opposite actually, but I've no reason not to believe it.

As I've said previously, I've no problem whatsoever with anyone choosing the CL option over the cup option - it's a hard choice for many reasons. But I object to such statements that you have used such as "it's a no brainer" as if anyone who would prefer the cup option is thick/deluded or whatever.

It would be nice if some on here could just try seeing/understanding both sides of an argument for a change, rather than just sticking staunchly and resolutely to their position and just dismissing all others in the manner they do. It's hardly an outrageous preference to want to win one or two trophies this season. That's by no means just aimed at you DanP

Shaggy - I think people are "arguing" over the two options as the question was posed in the style of "if you had to choose one..". But yeah I agree, no reason why we can't achieve both as things currently stand

IMO he would lie because we are in a final against Cardiff and obviously the chances of us winning the league cup are fairly strong, as oppose the 4th place which is a tough ask. From what i can make of it, it's just the captain dulling down expectations.

Being in the CL will enable us to bring in better players and challenge for more trophies. Wanting 4th does not equal not wanting to win trophies and getting 4th as the end game. Not difficult to understand. Whether you think that calculation is right is another matter, but it should not prompt insults.

I want us to get 4th because it would represent progress. Our ultimate goal should be the league title. Where we have been for the past few years (5th-7th) we haven't moved forwards. I want us to move forward so we get closer to winning the league. For me 4th is the first significant milestone to achieving that goal. If we build a better team will improve our chances of winning other trophies whilst we progress. Had we been sat consistently in 4th for the last few years I would be almost equally frustrated at our lack of progress and inability to take the next step (challenge for the title).
