Your posts implied that Morientes' failure was an example of top players not necessarily succeeding here, which is obviously a fair point.

However, if one fully acknowledges just how much better AS is than FM, then it seems to make the Ukrainian's chance of succeeding here seem a bit higher.

As i said before, i think most people would feel that Shevchenko will ultimately be a success in english football. If you dont, that's fine.

We'll see what happens. Not much point in continuing the discussion, because we're going round in circles, i'm not going to make you suddenly think Shevchenko will succeed here, and you're not going to change my mind either, so we'll agree to disagree.

Fair enuff, it was mainly that you were suggesting something that I never actually said.

I definitely think we paid too much for Pennant. I would have paid 4m for him, but for 7m, he's not worth it. Our best 11 right now has Gerrard on the right, and I'd be willing to take our chances with Garcia out there, or bringing Paul Anderson into the picture.

But Pennant's a Red now, so I certainly want him to be successful.

With respect to some of the other names mentioned, I would have liked us to sign Alves, especially because he could play RB as well, where we don't exactly have anyone other than Steve Finnan.

Someone also mentioned Aaron Lennon--I'd love to see this guy in a Red shirt. But, considering the amount of money Man U had to fork over for Carrick, and taking into consideration that Spurs would have been playing Champions League football this year if someone hadn't taken a dump in their lasagna, it's highly unlikely that we could have afforded the guy, even if we had gotten a nice fee for Cisse.

The contract doesnt say "£7m if he is good"....

It'll be appearance related, it'll be related to LFC qualifying for CL etc.

He's been pants so far, and keeps being picked, so there's the appearances.
We'll qualify for CL regardless of how good or bad he is.

So us paying the full fee wont necessarily mean he's been good.

I think we'd all like to have Lennon, and how much did Spurs pay for him from Leeds?

Just proves you don't have to spend huge amounts on players to make a good buy. In fact I'm struggling to think of a big name foreigner who's come over here and fully justified their transfer fee?

Ok i'll give you Bergkamp & Makelele, but the others either weren't big names or didn't come over for big money. I'm thinking of players more in the £15m plus bracket, that were established before they moved here

To put it another way, how many £15m plus foreigners have failed in the Prem? Veron is the obvious one, but who else?

The ussual "bell ends" with their idol specualtion about how one of our players who has a black eye must have had a bust up with....erm, let me see....hmmmm, Bellers is a bit of a lad, lets choose him, yeah, "Gonzo had a fight with Bellers and got properly sparked out. Swear to god, its the truth. Robbie's been on the blower all morning and he told me that Gonzo tried to chat some bird up and Bellers was into her first so he sparked Gonzo out, and then Gonzo ran away crying and said to Bellers, im gonna get my big brother on you, so Bellers had to say he was sorry. Swear down mate. You can ask anyone around here!!!"

DJS, who is to say that Sheva will succeed? he very well may sucroman but you dont know for a fact that he will be a hit, just like most on here dont know he will be ****. Personally, i say if he hasnt done it by the new year he wont do it at all. 6 months in the prem is ample enough time for a player of his stature to sort his cap out.

Sorry mate but RVN fully justified his transfer fee imo.

Id love Lennon at LFC. Can you imagine all the stupid puns in the press as well.

Strange how some people think superstar Sheva will eventually succeed, yet Pennant, after just a handful of starts is "pants"

Bellamy ? Any better than Cisse, I dont think so.
Pennant, just doesn't seem good enough. Maybe trying to fill Gerrards role on the right is just to big of a job for him.

Gonzalez, if he fails he will probably blame the weather.

Bellamy will prove to be a better signing than Cisse. His attitude seems first class as Cisse moaned and bitched all the time.
Did you see the size off those chickens?
