missing the goal is an accuracy issue. you want to be finding the area next to the post, and if you're a couple inches off then unfortunately you're going to hit it. but it means you are aiming for the right areas and just about hitting them. shots into the keeper's mitts and blazing over and wide are bad shots. hitting the post is a good shot that just missed out being a great one.

Don't get me wrong, I think we're being unlucky but at somepoint we've got to say it ain't luck, we're just a team of crap finishers.
I agree with this, in the long run it has nothing to do with luck, but a matter of skill when finishing. The better finisher hit's the post less often than the poorer finisher (unless he shoots in wide all the time of course ).

Yes Spearing got the ball, but he caught the player afterwards and it could easily have broken the player's leg / ankle. It was dangerous play. It would be nice if we could go back to when football was more of a contact sport but it's not going to happen.

The speed at which it happened, and the viewpoint of the ref, I can easily see how he sent him off for that. It was a reckless tackle. Hopefully he'll learn from it - I thought he played well apart from that and another couple of instances.

The Bellamy yellow was a joke. That should be rescinded. I don't think you can rescind yellow cards though can you? Which is another stupid rule in the game.
He'd won the ball a long time before the challenge though, there was no intent to catch the man. The ball had gone long before Dembele was caught. I think Dembele could've easily leaped Spearing's legs which were carried by momentum but knew the outcome would be a red.

wrong, darkon. hitting the post means you've hit the ball at the right area and beaten the keeper as well.

i would consider a ball that goes in just behind the post and ends up in the side netting inside the goal is as near a perfect shot as it gets. missing by a few inches is luck.

yes Dave, but hitting the ball past the keeper and in to the goal means you have done it 100% correct and not 75% correct as you could say with hitting the post. Not sure about the percentage for hitting the post but you get the point

In the end, you are doing the right thing, but the difference between hitting the post 5 times or just 1 time is skill.

Consistently missing by a few inches isn't luck - it's a lack of accuracy.

my point is if you are skillful enough to find that area of the goal 5 times then you are aiming there on purpose. otherwise you could just be blasting it in cisse style. do we want to talk about cisse in a discussion about accuracy?

it could be we are trying to be too precise. that would buy.

seems like someone is hitting the post a bit to often...

Apart from last night, when we hit the woodwork, it was mostly the outside of the woodwork. So you could say we were even lucky to hit the post rather than go straight wide or over...

Just onto Reina. WTF like? He parried it a couple of times last night. I know he made a few good saves last night but nothing we would have expected him not to save! I know Glen will be the one getting a bollocking in training but Reina needs a kick up the arse!

I'm so excited. And I just cant hide it. I'm about to loose control and I think I like it.

                      Ok thanks

Could still be part of a discussion with someone.

They were both badly at fault for that goal. You can add the rest of the defence for not anticipating and following up like Dempsey did, it was just a very poor goal all round to be conceding.

Reina got away with one in the first half too when he parried into a dangerous area and no one followed it up. He's been in excellent form of late, so hopefully it's a one off, same goes for Glen.

That was a definate Red for Dempsy, no doubt in my mind, just as you can't raise your hands to another players face, even if you don't punch them! you can't ****ing stick your forehead in either, the bloke should have walked. Prick!

This is the thing that annoys me about the ref last night. You could argue by the letter of the law that the Spearing challenge was a red card (something which will prevent any appeal being sucessful). But if the referee is applying a strict letter of the law interpretation of the rules then he has to do so consistently and in this incident (and others) the same criteria wasn't applied.

What was even worse was that during the incident Bellamy appeared to be looking toward the referee as if to say "come, you're not allowed to do this", but Dempsey just kept on and **** all was done. You can understand when sometimes players react in an exaggerated manner as they are just trying to make sure they get the foul.
