Not sure away goals will be that important, they dont come into play unless the overall tie goes into extra time.

If the first leg ends in a scoreless draw, then any scoring draw in the second leg knocks us out. Plus effectively being two goals up at any stage of the game, especially towards the end of the second leg can have a big impact on proceedings - the extra time being guaranteed in the event of a scoring draw potentially only delays the advantage of the side with the away goal. I think it will be tight and we want to make sure we don't end up on the back foot at home.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostNot sure away goals will be that important, they dont come into play unless the overall tie goes into extra time.

13.5 In the Semi-Final ties, if the aggregate score is level at the end of the second game an extra half-hour shall be played. If the aggregate scores are still level at the end of extra time the tie shall be decided by goals scored away from home counting twice. If the teams remain equal after this procedure the tie shall be determined by the taking of kicks from the penalty mark in accordance with the Laws of Association Football.Originally posted by pondus View PostIsn't it the other way round, away goals count after normal time, but not after extra time?

According to Wiki:
Semi-finals
The four fifth round winners compete in this round. The ties are played over home and away legs, with the aggregate scores being used to determine the winners. If the aggregate scores are level at the end of the 90 minutes, then extra time takes place to determine the winner. If after extra time the aggregate tie still prevails, the away goals rule determines the winner. However if there is no separation here, a penalty shootout takes place until there is a winner.

That's from 2008-2009 - as i say, they may have changed it since then but if not, as i said, away goals dont count unless we go to extra time.Originally posted by BootRoom View Post13.5 In the Semi-Final ties, if the aggregate score is level at the end of the second game an extra half-hour shall be played. And this is from Wiki, specifically relating to the 2011-12 Carling Cup:
Semi-finals
The draw for the semi-finals took place on 30 November 2011. Unlike the rest of the tournament, the semi-finals will be played over two legs, with the aggregate score after the second leg determining the winners. In the event of the aggregate scores being level after the second legs, 30 minutes of extra time will be played, with the away goals rule applied.
The first legs will take place in the week commencing 9 January 2012, with the second legs a fortnight later in the week commencing 23 January 2012.

Well, you seem to have said:Originally posted by BootRoom View PostI acknowledged that fact in my initial reply.
Thus neglecting to mention that extra time would be required before anything 'knocks us out'.If the first leg ends in a scoreless draw, then any scoring draw in the second leg knocks us out.

Is a second leg result of say 1 - 1, 2 - 2, 3 - 3, etc (following a scoreless first leg), after extra time NOT a scoreless draw? If it's still tied after 90 minutes the leg isn't over.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostWell, you seem to have said:

I reference the fact that a period of extra time is guaranteed in the event of scoring draw:
