Its a big shame we didnt send ilori on loan in this country to toughen him up a bit so he might be more ready to prove himself pre season. Anyone we loan abroad seems to suggest they aint coming back, origi not included due to the purchase agreement.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

What do people think, how likely is he (Coates) to be back here next season? Because to be honest I thought he was one we would certainly be looking to move on in the summer, and I don't think I was the only one. Is his upturn in form enough to keep him here? The last couple of games he at least looks capable of doing a job for us, and if we let him go I doubt we'd get decent money for him, on that basis he's probably worth keeping. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

He looked good for us in pre-season too. Shame he didn't get a full season at Sunderland so we could really judge him.
Think he would do well in the Skrtel role, if we played 3 at the back.If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

These things only usually work like that if they paid a loan fee (not sure if they did). Also it would only apply if we wanted to sell, if we wanted to keep him presumably Sunderland's interest or any argeement like that wouldn't matter.Originally posted by Rich View PostPerhaps Sunderland have first dabs on him. Sunderland parked the bus first half and he was excellent, 2nd half the game was wide open and he was even better.
Him performing great for them certainly doesn't automatically mean he would for us, obviously - different set ups, lots of different variables etc.....but I think there's a player there and he's still young for a CB. Look at someone like Paletta, who's had a great career in Serie A and plays for Italy. I think Coates is potentially a better player. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

He's featured in their last four games after injuries forced Advocaat to play him. I'm not sure about Coates. He's one of those who reminds me of Lambert and Allen in that they need a run of games to play themselves into form.
He's 24, and will be 25 in October. Would he force his way into our side and play a solid number of games?

I don't know but I'd feel better with him in the side than Lovren or Kolo. I realise not many seem to rate him on here but he reads the game very well, is dominant in the air, and a bit like Henchoz absolutely *loves* defending and throwing himself in front of things. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Advocaat for Defensive CoachOriginally posted by foresterbloke View PostThose stats are impressive but it's as much to do with Sunderland's defensive shape. Ours is a ****ing shambles and will make even the best defenders look ****.

his obligatory youtube compilation before he signed looked very steady. he looked like he was almost the finished article. he looked great in several internationals.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostI don't know but I'd feel better with him in the side than Lovren or Kolo. he definitely regressed, maybe its the good skunk in the city, who knows.
i really do hope he is given another shot. so many top defenders only really come into their own in their mid 20s. he could be like a new signing.removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.
