If we are only going to get a couple of million quid, some of them such as Coates might be worth more to us than the cash.Originally posted by The s man View PostAll players out on loan should go - wisdom maybe the only one but I just don't think he has the technique but I may be wrong - all others out please we need cashThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I really hope we give the returning players a chance in pre-season. That's not to say that we should keep them all but Alberto, Teixeira, Wisdom, Coates and Ilori all look to have some quality (even if it is not clear it is enough for us).Originally posted by Shaggy View PostI don't know but I'd feel better with him in the side than Lovren or Kolo. I realise not many seem to rate him on here but he reads the game very well, is dominant in the air, and a bit like Henchoz absolutely *loves* defending and throwing himself in front of things.
If nothing else it would mean we would have just about every style of CB conceivable for the coaching staff to try to blend into a functoinal defense."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I agree, I think we are just as well off with Coates, Ilori or Wisdom in place of Kolo. If we need to concentrate our resources towards the strikers and midfielders I'd even consider go into the season with Skrtel, Sakho, Lovren, Coates, Ilori and Wisdom. I think Rodgers could buy Silva and Chiellini but still turn them **** either way.Originally posted by dww View PostI really hope we give the returning players a chance in pre-season. I think the way we play the defenders don't stand a chance under Rodgers, the midfield is too open, the fullbacks press forward but noone covers, leaving the CB's stretched and spaces all over. That's my point. Don't think it's nonsense.Originally posted by Muddled View PostNonsense.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

When we played three at the back it looked good for a while I'll give that, but he can't get the balance right, he's been here three years and we are ridiculously unbalanced and open. And Skrtel needed to be flanked by two players to limit his role and Rodgers doesn't seem to rate Sakho and we weren't keeping clean sheets against the strongest opponents IIRC.Originally posted by RedReet View PostYet Skrtel has played his best football under Rodgers, Sakho has looked good when fit and we broke an all-time club record for consecutive away clean sheets.* The above is posted in my opinion. I instantly thought of David Silva, my apologies. You mean Thiago, right?Originally posted by The_weatherman View PostI think the way we play the defenders don't stand a chance under Rodgers, the midfield is too open, the fullbacks press forward but noone covers, leaving the CB's stretched and spaces all over. Rodgers has a track record of getting attacking players to play well, hence my original reply but still, I think a higher calibre of defenders would instantly improve our team; I don't think Rodgers would 'turn them ****'.
At the moment, he's got a selection of central defenders that all have bad traits or traits that don't complement the other. Skrtel runs back to goal, Lovren runs up and Toure just runs everywhere. Our only competent centre back is Sakho who has to completely change his game to adjust to whoever he is partnered with.

I think he'd get D. Silva to play relatively **** in defence.
I think it's a setup problem more than personel, the way he likes our midfield setup it's just too open and as a result our defenders will always have too much too do. The reason Lovren and Kolo run everywhere is because they feel the need to step up and close the gaps all over the place.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

When we didn't have Sakho, Skrtel and Can fit and playing together we seemed very vulnerable.Originally posted by The_weatherman View PostWhen we played three at the back it looked good for a while I'll give that, but he can't get the balance right, he's been here three years and we are ridiculously unbalanced and open. The away record was only PL games and it was against Southampton, Swansea, Everton, Villa and Sunderland. The games finished 0-2, 0-1, 0-0, 0-2 and 0-1. But we also faced Bolton, Besiktas, Palace and Chelsea away in cups during that run and conceded in every one of those games.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.
