Kenny is always saying how great Commoli was. I am 100% confident that him leaving had NOTHING to do with Kenny.
          Forwards.......

Absolute pace is something Torres at his peak had, Owen at his peak also, the right back from Spurs currently is a good example. Suarez for me isnt lightning fast at all, but as I say he doesnt need to be, his feet are quicker than anyones ive seen in a long time.

For me (and I loved Rafa and would have him back tomorrow) we have lacked 'real' pace for a long time, since Rafa was here. We havent actually bought many genuinely quick players and last summer none of them were quick, even Downing for me isnt quick (or intelligent)

Last night it was easy to defend against us, near to the half way, push up and nobody was going to run in behind, Shelvey got closest to doing it but when Henderson was taken off he returned to play a holding role with Spearing, leaving us even less likely to get in behind them.

OK Bellamy is quick, but he cant/doesnt play often enough, after him who else?

                  Gerrard is also extremely quick

I do agree though I would like more pace in the side as a general rule

Johnson's quick enough. Skrtel & Agger aren't slow and Enrique is grease lightning.

could be that kenny has noted that the team runs out of steam quickly and bruckners approach to managing players fitness isnt working.

Ive seen us look really lethargic on many occasions this season and bruckner took the caning for that. so it might be totally unrelated to the kenny/commoli situation.

I cant say for sure. you might be right.

i would say that the way we play (apparently ballague said that after barcelona we were the team that had the highest play in opponents half percentages), its very hard to use that pace.

when you're dominating possession and constantly and pinning the opposition into their own half, you cant use outright speed if the opponents are controlling the space well. There's just nowhere to run.

If we adjusted the game plan to play a little more on the counter then you would need pace and lots of it. I generally think we do have a fair bit of it but we dont show that because we dont play counter-attacking football very well.

I still think playing high up the pitch and as short as game as possible is more likely to achieve success than just on the counter

Thats what the old great sides was founded on

                              i agree with that.

another poster mentioned that we dont have enough pace in the team but the way we play we dont really need blistering pace all over the pitch. we need clever footballers who can operate in tight spaces and who are capable of playing one touch - two touch football. players who can open up defences with decent passing from close quarters.

christian erikssen, stefan jovetic, susaeta would all be good aquisitions.

We really do lack pace and we are very predictable (apart from Suarez), but we probably lack guile more so. So basically we should sign players that have pace and guile, sorted!!
