one problem i have with LGV is does he want to stay a DoF or will he actually eventually kick the manager out and do the job himself?

It would have to take someone like Klopp to get everything looking forward to the future, but I can't see it.

They've just won the Bundesliga and are in the Champions League with a settled squad. They've not been brilliant in Europe under him, but they've gelled and he may want a crack at that.

I don't think any of those managers were that successful with the smaller clubs they managed (with a few exceptions), but in most cases them demonstrated qualities that attacted bigger clubs, thats why I think the owners like Martinez...Looking at the league table Pulis is a better manager than Martinez, but his approach wouldn't work at a big club, but Martinez has Wigan playing good football, he's adaptable and calm under pressure, all important things for the elite..

But we weren't a bigger club, in the sense of challenging for top honours, when Shankly took over. Jock Stein and Fergie had substantial successes, Wenger won the league in France. The exceptions are almost as numerous as the number of those following the rule in your list.

I'm not completely against your point that managers have to start somewhere and the likes of Guardiola and de Boer have shown that a lack of experience is not always a bar to great success. However I don't think you list anyone who was put in the position of absolutely having to succeed instantly, which is pretty much what we will be asking whoever comes in.
