How do you know what role he'd accept if you don't ask? This is a massive decision you'd at least think they'd bother to ****ing find out.. Guessing has no place in making this kind of decision.

The role is of a coach and coaching alone. There will be an experienced man taking care of everything else ie manager. Can't see Benitez happy being a glorified coach.

If wanting some ambition from the club is being defeatist then ok I am guilty of it. We just had the worse league campaign for years and they just sacked the club legend. Next move? Talking to by all accounts a nice young bloke whom just avoided relegation. When there are managers out there who have won titles and cups. How are we going to be winners if we don't hire the best out there?

I'm getting behind Martinez now, looks like its done.

He's young, enthusiastic and has fresh ideas. His energy might well rub off on the squad, we may well get too see some our our young lads being given a chance and he could have a good clearout of the dead wood.

He's bound to have some good connections in Spain and his sides have been playing some decent looking football at times. If he does end up being a great manager, he will be here for years and years to come. He could be the future of this great club.

If their biggest concern is the age of the manager rather than what he's done, they are idiots that have no place running a corner shop, much less Liverpool FC.

I don't get where people think this structure means the manager has little to no say on transfers. This is the same structure as most US sports teams have and coaches have a lot of say into who comes in. They just don't have the final say. Yes, I think Rafa would to work in that situation unless the DoF was on a completely different page.

I'd also suggest that trying to change the entire football structure, while your club is in decline, while expecting an immediate return to the top 4, and needing to sign some world class players to achieve that isn't the best way to go about things. This is the type of thing you do when your on top and already have the names and reputation in place to attract players or you are at the very bottom, don't expect to get results for many years, and don't care about the immediate consequences of those changes.

mate, I don't agree with what they are doing. Kenny should still be in charge and it's a massive risk imo.

But if you're being honest Rafa couldn't nor should he, be asked to come back but in a role as glorified coach which by all accounts is what the new set up will be about.

Its bull**** It is a valid worry, the guys CV is not up to scratch. You base your opinion on the amount you know about football and you are told to stop supporting the club for airing your worries.

Surely if Kenny takes the hit for us finishing 8th, we'd expect the same to be levelled at Martinez? Martinez has Wigan *just* avoiding relegation much like Kenny had us *off* fourth.

Fair enough, Moses played well towards the end of the season, but was Moses playing for a future move, or playing well because it suddenly clicked under Martinez's tutelege?

Martinez might have been one of the few to get N'Zogbia playing, but he still can't get a team of eleven to play consistently well for a sustained period of time.

Mourinho - signed a new contract

I want us to go backwards about as much as the next man but until I see FSG's vision and the results from getting their man (neither Hodgson or Kenny was that) then I'm willing to wait and see. I pray they make the right choices but so far I am happy with them, believe they have our best interests to heart and are capable of dragging us back from the brink.

Louis Van Gaal is an option, and he hasn't rejected it either. The media outlets suggest he'd prefer a managerial role over the DOF role.

You can get 5-6 years out of him. One of the best managers in the world with an undeniable CV.

FSG are getting an incredible amount of leeway. I don't trust them with this club unless they show ambition and quality. Instead, it's been shambles after shambles.
