How is appointing Martinez good for revenue streams?

Keeping Kenny or re-appointing Rafa would have resulted in a surge of interest in the brand and as a byproduct, merchandise. Those two are after all, the popular choices among the fanbase.

It seems that FSG's philosophy is pretty simple: Qualify for the Champions League, at the lowest price possible ... Martinez, unlike Kenny or Rafa, is a pretty low-maintenance-cost manager, and would probably try to pull a "Newcastle" here ... We, as supporters, want to compete for trophies ... Our owners, on the other hand, seem to be more interested in the CL revenues ...

Would player costs (transfer fees / wages / bonues / agents fees / signing on fees) not far outweigh (ne, dwarf) any manager's wages?

I have no idea how much Kenny would get paid compared to Martinez, but would it really be a significant amount in the grand scheme of things? How about LVG, is he coming in on the cheap?

Certainly it is all about the coincidence, or otherwise, of interests. But, unlike you, I'm not at all convinced FSG's interests are in fundamental opposition to the fans'. In contrast, there was never an overlap between us and Hicks and Gillett, except perhaps a moment when signing Torres was a useful PR move for them.

Clearly you and FSG see things differently but that doesn't mean they have no regard for the best interests of the club, that doesn't mean they see the club as having entirely different interests to the supporters and that doesn't mean they're wrong.

In short, I understand your concern but I think it's premature to make any hard-and-fast judgement about what they're doing, who they appoint and what their goals might be.

BRENDAN Rodgers will consider quitting Swansea City if Liverpool firm up their interest in making him their new manager.

Rodgers is the bookmakers’ favourite to be offered the chance to take over at Anfield even though he declined the opportunity to speak to the Reds’ owners 11 days ago.

And though Swansea issued a statement yesterday insisting there has been no fresh approach from Liverpool, fears are growing at the Liberty that the club’s bright young boss could be tempted away.

In what looks a worrying development, there are suggestions that Rodgers has cut short his end-of-season holiday in order to fly home and discuss his situation with Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins.

Rodgers has always maintained that he is happy at Swansea, where he has thrived along with the club over two fabulous seasons.

Swansea’s fans breathed a huge sigh of relief when the club announced earlier this month that Rodgers had rejected the chance to discuss the Liverpool job.

But amid reports that Rodgers is now the Merseyside club’s No.1 target, the Evening Post understands he could be ready to reconsider his stance.

As content as he is with life in Wales, the 39-year-old is aware that the chance to manage one of football’s biggest clubs may not come around again.

Rodgers has always said that he would leave Swansea one day, and has made no secret of the fact that he wants to work for a club who have the potential to win silverware.

And though he is in no rush to say his goodbyes, it may be that the Liverpool opportunity proves too good to turn down.

Rodgers originally said no to Liverpool amid suggestions that they wanted to speak to as many as a dozen candidates about succeeding Kenny Dalglish at the Anfield helm.

And though the likes of Roberto Martinez and Jurgen Klopp continue to be linked with the role, it appears Rodgers may now become Liverpool’s top target.

Sources close to Rodgers insisted yesterday that he had not been approached about the Reds role, though it would be a surprise if there has not been some informal contact with the Northern Irishman’s representatives. Swansea, meantime, stressed that they had heard nothing from Liverpool.

The club went so far as to release a statement in which they said: “We would like to clarify the speculation in the press surrounding our manager Brendan Rodgers.

“We would like to confirm that there has been no contact from Liverpool and nothing has changed since our previous statement on the issue.”

Swansea said then that Rodgers had “declined the current opportunity” to speak to Liverpool and that he was instead focusing on strengthening the playing staff in SA1.

Rodgers signed a new three-and-a-half year contract at Swansea in the spring, which means the club will be entitled to a large chunk of compensation should he be headhunted by Liverpool.

Roberto Martinez, a young, intelligent Spanish manager who impressed US audiences during his stint with ESPN during the 2010 World Cup.

A bit cynical here, but he's very marketable for FSG.

With all due respect, that is a massive assumption on your part. A wild guess even.
