Jonjo Shelvey by the way was outstanding today! 20 years old (yes I'll continue to bang on about this) and he's ready to play.

Just thinking about it, we need to commit more men forward in attack at times. Suarez picked the ball up a good few times and had no real options. Sterling was very good and Borini worked hard but their was rarely a combination of Sterling, Suarez, Borini + a midfielder bursting on.Vive la France

Gutted. In my mind, given the performance, that was two points dropped. Don't care it was City, that should have been a win and I can't be pleased to endure yet another brainless error and another **** ref who seems to ****ing hate us. Infuriating for me... can't blame anyone except Skrtel's panicked idiocy, on paper you take that result, but should have been 3 points."Our legacy begets an excellence that surpasses the particulars of who produces it." -- David Carr

People will rave on about Sterling today (and he was good) but Shelvey was superb IMO and second only to Allen for MOTM. Glen was very good too. **** happens. I somehow doubt Skrtel will ever do a Gerrard again. Gerrard has done a Gerrard a few times in his career so it's only fair that someone else did a GerrardMy kebab comes with chilli sauce

Wow! What a fantastic performance! To say that bodes well for the season is a massive understatement. To think we played the CHAMPIONS off the park without Agger, Lucas and Sahin! All of Rodgers' signings look like proper players and we might have more to come. Great that Suarez scored too.
Come on the Redmen!

One of the biggest positives for me, wasn't worried at all when Lucas went off, and Sahin is yet to come.Originally posted by Chris View PostDidnt think I'd ever see a performance like that without Agger and Lucas! We usually fall apart without one let alone both!Brandt - Keita - Van Dijk - Sessegnon

Also...
When Luis doesn't need to hold the ball up, he needs to make decisions quicker. Lost momentum with him at times. Obviously he was magic at times too, not least the goal, but if he wants to elevate himself then that is something to work on alongside his shot selection.
Borini doesn't ooze class but showed great work ethic and clever movement, think he can be productive for us in a very similar fashion to Kuyt. His versatility will be important also.Like blood on iron

Some thoughts:
* That we're all disappointed with just a draw against City speaks volumes really. Some costly individual errors, which are always going to creep in when you're trying to play a possession game. But yeay, I thought we looked really good.
* Gerrard was good in possession, but looked leisurely when we didn't have the ball. Strange, considering the emphasis Rodgers puts on pressure. I wasn't very impressed with him today in all honesty. I thought we got very little from the ref and to me, Gerrard should have been in his ear a little more. No one would like to see us take a leaf from Rugby's book (and respect every decision the ref makes), but no one else does, so we're at a disadvantage, because I do think it makes a difference.
* Borini cost us possession on a few occasions, but I have a feeling he's going to become our latest cult hero. He works his socks off. Just didn't stop running, and his movement is exceptional. He looks a little bit raw for his age, but he has plenty of room for improvement. We could have a lethal striker on our hands if he can develop his finishing / composure.
* Allen was fantastic. Our best player in my opinion. Don't remember him wasting a pass and was superb when City where in possession. Very Lucas-esq performance from him today. Once Lucas is back on his game, and Sahin has adapted, that trio are going to dominate against any midfield in the league.
* Fantastic to see Sterling, Shelvey and Coates do so well. Sterling can compete for a first team spot this season, which is fantastic news. It must also be great for the boys at the academy to see one of them make the break through. Shows it can be done. It's going to be harder for Suso because of the position he plays in, but this shows that Rodgers is willing to put his trust in young players. He showed a lot of bravery with his lineup today and that's great to see from a manager.
* There were long spells in that game where we were a joy to watch. Hopefully, as the season goes on, those glimpses will become the norm.
* Carroll looked really fired up for me again today. I really think he'll play his way into our team - I really hope we keep a hold of him. We also have Assaidi and Sahin to come into this team as well remember. After the depressing end to last season, I really lost my appetite for football. Now I can't wait for the next match. Bring on Arsenal! I reckon we'll batter them

I think Shelvey has benefited enormously from his first team experience, he has taken confidence from it and it shows. He is decisive where Henderson, who I think is ahead of him for ability, can look lost.Like blood on iron
