Cannot believe so many people are saying Gerrard had a poor game, looked sluggish and even asking if we need him anymore? Damn right we need him! He's still one of the top 5 midfielders in the Prem. played much better than Yaya today. Do you think City fans are worried about him as he's almost 30? No and quite rightly.

We unexpectedly started slowly today but grew into the game and took control. We didn't create enough chances and do not look dangerous enough up front. Sterling surprised me in the maturity he showed in his performance and I will not have any worries if he is picked to start in big games again, as long as its a home game. Borini will obviously be compared to Kuyt as he works hard but I believe there is more to come from him.

We could do with moving Spearing and Cole on and getting a striker and winger before the window shuts.

I saw their 0-0 draw at home to Sunderland last week in a pub in London showing 3pm kick-offs on Greek TV, so I must agree. They were utterly abysmal and looked like they'll really struggle without Van Persie and Song. They were really terrible, clueless and never looked like scoring

Look at his performances for England in the summer, he still has the talent without a doubt, I could agree with criticism of him in the first Gomel game but not today.
        I agree.

As much as anything, given how we dominated midfield for most of the game, it doesn't make any sense that one of our midfielders wasn't at least good enough. The others weren't that good they could make up for him!

I didn't notice - it's hard to see on television - but who kept Yaya Toure quiet most of the match? Surely Gerrard should get some of the credit for that.

I was glad that Sterling started, as he did well last time out. I thought that the performance was good but we made some poor mistakes defensively and should have got the 3 points today.

Thought Gerrard was really good myself, if anything a bit too composed, could have shot a few times but always looked for a team mate.

Not much to say as I saw none of it, but sounded promising from the 5live commentary. In fact I enjoyed it immensely on the radio. It was a blast from yesteryear. Still no goal from open play which was our problem last season. Radio blamed reina and also suggested Lucas pulled up in the warm up and was a risk to play him. Either true?

Goal was on Kelly, not Reina IMO. He made a massive blunder.

You can blame Reina because he missed the ball and, as a keeper, if you got for it, you have to get there. But actually it flicked off Skrtel's head just in front of him - that's why he missed it.

And yes, Lucas did his thigh in the warm-up and it was a gamble that didn't work.

Both are mistakes in hindsight. At the time though...

And Kelly hardly had any more time to react to Skrtel's flick than Reina did. It was more bad luck than anything, unless you say it was a problem of communication - Reina should have shouted at Skrtel to duck under it.

Reina was flapping at most balls today; However, Kelly didn't anticipate it - positionally he was sound - although perhaps you could look at the left back who was tucked in and it was on Sterling to stop the ball coming in.

Thanks girls for filling in the blanks. So where would Sahin play if Lucas wasn't crocked?

Very down about throwing it away but overall massively encouraged. With Sahin, Assaidi and maybe 'a few more' coming in things are looking very promising for us.

I loved the bit where Downing sat on his arse.
