We looked tired and lethargic today. Really sloppy and I still don't get why we play Borini out wide. We needed that ball to stick up front, but we lost it most of the time.

Gerrard was wasteful and slow. You can understand Benitez' thinking in saying Gerrard should be more advanced in his latter years on the pitch.

Not a great week at all, and we've got two weeks to drown in this.

Sterling and Shelvey continue to impress. Lost for words with Reina.

I'm quite the optimist but I'm feeling down about our lack of thrust. Perhaps we can put Assaidi on the left and show Sterling some Messi DVDs and tell him to keep doing that.
Not with Howard Webb in charge. Suarez was clearly pulled back and they should have been down to 10 men at 1-1.

It's also blatantly obvious that Allen is the only player to have played in a passing team before.

He's magic by the way, excellent close control, good short and long rang passing. Brilliant signing.
The times they are a changin'.

They absolutely smashed us in midfield - it was a Rafa-eque effort from a few years ago. Super solid in defence and excellent on the break. They ran the entire game at their tempo. You don't need to play like Barcelona to dominate a game.

There is a possibility he's been poor in training? Maybe they're trying to toughen him up as well.

They were tactically superior. they may not have had waves of attacks or clear cut chances, but their pressing was far better, passing, tackling and desire.

Rubbish, they were very good in defence and on the counter, they never controlled the midfield at all.

Well he cost 3m for a club that value Downing's quality at 20m......................so ????

Or we could be on 7 points.

Lucas going out is a big miss but Kenny had to suffer that last season

I think the football will become more possession based but we will still be toothless and as such teams will exploit our flaws more readily

Cant say I'm that optimistic of much if any improvement this season
They scored because of a mistake though. And they had no dangerous breaks before that. When you concede the game changes. We were the better team at 0-0 and should have threatened their goal. But didn't because Suarez and Borini, and Gerrard, did nothing. Strikers stopped us going ahead, and if we had I'm sure Sterling would have had a field day as Arsenal pushed on.
