Maybe drop Allen. Play joe cole in the middle three and start downing

The key three though, gerrard, Suarez, sterling....the on,y dangerous players in our squad at the moment capable of winning a game...I'll be seriously ****ed off if they play tonight...all other positions we have arguable got cover....but they are only players we have who can score/create,

Oh wait a min...is shelvey still suspended? Forgot about him

I would play the following tonight:

    Jones
    Johnson
    Coates
    Agger
    Robinson

    Gerrard
    Shelvey
    Henderson

    Suso
    Suarez
    Raheem

Going by the rumoured line up.

          Jones

          Wisdom Skrtel Agger Johnson

          Gerrard Shelvey Sahin

          Assaidi Suarez Downing

Worried about that midfield to be honest. The will be gaping holes between defence and midfield. I think we need a strong team though, we need to build a run og results and losing today would only break the momentum we are building IMO.

Not sure we have any choice as we don't have any mids in Lucas absence with defensive qualities but him.

That said, I can see Rodgers putting him on the bench tonight and only use him if we start leaking goals very early.

I am actually going to go against the grain here: I think tonight's game is the "must-win" game this week. There, I said it.

Yes, the derby is a huge game and nobody likes it if we lose but I would take a draw at the weekend if it guaranteed us a win tonight. If we lose tonight, we are all but out of Europe. I know we are not taking it massively seriously, but if we want our squad players and youth prospects to have more competitive football then we need to get the points on the board (3 points with away games at the 2 strongest teams in the group does not bode well).

All this crap about must win games at this stage of the season really irks me. In the grand scheme of things, it is just one game out of 38. Tonight's game could end our chance of European success. A loss at the weekend, although very hard to swallow, does not write off our chances of anything in the league.

That is a large chunk of our first team if true I really would prefer not to see Skrtel, Agger , Johnson , Gerrard and there is no way Suarez should be playing given the game on Sunday, hopefully this proves to be a hoax
With the exception of Gerrard maybe, I don't see why any of our players can't play 2 games a week, most weeks.

                  I tend to agree.

I don't think we'll win the EL (especially when the CL teams drop into it ) but I'd like us to have a good run and take the competition seriously.

The kids will get a chance in all competitions this season anyway because of our depleted squad, but I see no reason not to play Gerrard and Suarez in Europe.

Let the kids play in the League Cup but let's take the EL and FA Cups seriously.

If Rodger's plays a weakened team there is a strong chance of us getting tonked. If he plays a strong team we'll still be in for a hard game and our chances for the derby could well be compromised. Hhmm. I vote for playing a weaked team tonight and saving the first team for Sunday.

I have changed my mind about this game. I did think it was low priority but come on, this is European football! Liverpool FC playing midweek European games is still prestigious and special.

I don't want us to be easily beaten and agree with mattydalton a few posts back. Our next game is our most important, it should always be like that. Yes we have injury problems and a tiny squad, but we have to keep the faith in the youngsters, so far when called upon they haven't really let us down. I expect a strong side tonight with a sprinkling of youth. Let us get this out of the way and then we can think about Sunday.

Glad I am not the only one. I did wonder whether I was setting myself up for abuse for being when I posted that!

You want to keep faith in the youngsters by picking a strong side, i.e. a side that would contain fewer youngsters?

Are they that good though? I would be more worried playing the other russian teams? only 1 of there players made the russian squad for the Euros, Diarra will be out and they have a couple of brazilians. Zhirkov hardly set the premier alight although always rated Samba.

I think Sterling will tear these a new arsehole.

On form, our strongest side includes many of the youngsters.
