Phil's as good as gone come the summer as he will be another player bought cheaply and sold for huge profit which will then be used to fund More **** buys. The thing that interests me is how much money would have been made available in the summer if Sterling had not been sold?

FSG talk about spending what we earn and it seems to me that the entire transfer budget was depending on Sterling being sold. Don't get me wrong fsg are no hicks and gillet but it appears they are stealing from Peter to pay Paul.

We are now a feeder club who appear to be more than happy selling our best players every summer as long as the accounts look good.

Last summer we had a net spend of about £35m, this summer we had a net spend of about £15m plus whatever Ings ends up costing which presumably will put our final net spend at around £22-25m this summer. I don't think that is a bad amount, if we hadn't sold Sterling presumably things would have been different - we would have bought differently but I imagine our net spend might have been about the same.

I don't think that level of net spend is unreasonable given we were in the CL last year and aren't this year I imagine that explains the difference between the two years. The net spend is also probably in line with the FFP rules which is what FSG always said they would do, yes those rules have been relaxed/removed now but FSG were never going to give us a load of money to blow (and given our recent moves in the transfer market you can't blame them).

I don't think FSG are doing anything any different to what they always said they would do. For me the problem with our spending isn't how much money we have to spend, but what we have been spending it on!
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Why don't we use him like we did in the 2013/14 season when we were ripping teams to shreds and everyone was scared of us including Arsenal / United

Two strikers on the pitch up top , Firmino behind them and Coutinho pulling the strings behind them three.

We have been so one dimensional lets take the game to opposing teams now we have the attacking talent at our disposal

But he wasnt great in that 13/14 side. Infact he was a bit of a weak link when he played from memory. Last season was his proper breakout for us.

So maybe that system just doesnt suit him.

28 games (5 as sub) and 5 goals with 7 assists in the league 13/14.

            Not too shabby.

He was good in 13/14, but in a team where a lot of guys were playing well (who could steal the limelight away from SASAS). Last season he was arguably our only decent attacking player.

I just remember him receiving the ball around the centre circle and taking the piss and leaving players in his wake with his turn which went either way.

Put some movement ahead of him and his thru balls will have three players to aim for instead of Benteke.

He's still so young & developing it's really difficult to say for sure. He was very inconsistent at that point though.
                3rd place. Worst champions ever.

Just looked back on here to see if what I was thinking was right.

Seems he was up and down. Injured and inconsistent. So yeah, flashes of his brilliance. But frustration too. Basically just a young player.

He was widely thought of as the player of the Asian Cup.

Paris Saint-Germain defender David Luiz believes his Brazil team-mate Philippe Coutinho will leave Liverpool at the end of the season if they do not qualify for the Champions League.

The attacking midfielder has developed into one of Liverpool's star players since joining the club from Inter in January 2013 and has been linked with clubs such as Barcelona and Real Madrid in recent months following his sublime performances at Anfield.

The 23-year-old opted against a move away from Liverpool ahead of the 2015-16 campaign, but his compatriot expects him to leave if they again fail to qualify for Europe's elite club competition.

"Coutinho made the choice to stay at Liverpool without Champions League football this season. I don't think he will make that choice again," David Luiz was quoted as telling the Sunday Express.

"The best need to be playing with the best. Coutinho is the best midfielder in England right now. That is great for him, but when you play at that level the big clubs will notice you.

"If Liverpool don't qualify this season for the Champions League, I am sure he will be the most in-demand player in Europe next summer."

Coutinho has a contract with Liverpool until June 2020
