Its a big call dropping the captain, the "experienced head" and the heir apparent to Liverpool's central midfield for the next ten years to squaddies for Coutinho to change position. He has had some good games there, but he isn't exactly an imposing physical presence.

I do wonder what his long term future is under Klopp, who hasn't made any moves to drop him deeper.

I think Klopp quite likes his "Engine Room" of Can, Milner and Henderson...they may not be as creative as we might like, but they never give the opposition midfield a moments rest. Then with Lallana and Firmino (and lately Origi) constantly pressing and moving I reckon Klopp quite likes having options like Coutinho and Sturridge kicking their heels and eager to prove a point.

If we play him deeper then it means leaving out one of Hendo, Milner and Can which would leave us exposed defensively.
Wouldn't be surprised if we cashed in on him in the summer.
Absolute bollocks... he has improved consistently since he came to us, most notably imo his defensive side of the game, back tracking, helping out and pressing and his tackling is so under-rated, yeah he may go through a purple patch with players of his ilk likewise go through, but he is a defo keeper and fits in well with klopps system, deeper or at the tip of the diamond (i prefer him deeper)...

Klopp is pretty insistent on playing the 4-2-3-1, and has only used the diamond sparingly during matches, not as a starting point (Southampton aside).

It has been mentioned elsewhere, and I agree, that Klopp is seeing which players can fit into his system long term. I don't see Klopp using 4-3-3 as his starting template, nor a diamond.

Therefore, I think the idea of seeing Coutinho playing deeper will not happen (even though it is his best position).

He needs to adapt his positioning and decision-making, because he presses well, which is a key Klopp attribute, but playing on that left hand side has seen some bizarre decisions made, as well as wild shots.

            Really?
You watch a different game to me, I see him sprint sometimes, amble back most of the time.
Which is fine btw, I don't have a problem with it but it isn't what Klopp wants.

Milner, Can, Hendo (people are discussing playing PC deeper) Lallana, Origi, Firmino all work much harder for the entire time they are on the pitch than what PC does.
Some players are suited to certain systems.

Coutinho (like Flanagan) is still living off that half a season in the diamond with Rodgers, 2 years ago.
He's not alone either, if Sturridge doesn't change his ways then Origi will be picked ahead of him regularly as well.

As Klopp has shown with Benteke, he doesn't care for reputations or price tags or if he's a fans favourite, pick the player that performs the role the best for the team.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

I see it a bit different as I think we play our best football in the attacking third with Phil in the team.

His little one two's , dinked passes that no one else can play and also never afraid to get on the ball no matter who is marking him, just been a bit unlucky with his hammy this year.

Sahin played in the 2 in midfield in Klopp's first good Dortmund side and even Kagawa played there from time to time. In certain games Coutinho could do that also. He'd need a dedicated DM beside him though, Bender used to play that role for Borussia. Coutinho and Can or Henderson wouldn't work as we'd be too exposed at the back.

he likes his DMs tall and strong...bender played while kehl was out injured. and then he had sahin and later gundogan as the deep lying playmaker. don't think any of can, hendo or cout fit those two roles.

as much as i like coutinho, he's too wasteful on the ball, if you watch gundogan, he hardly ever misplaces a pass or looses the ball under pressure, and i think that's what he'll be looking for in his CMs.

cout can defo play in any of the three positions behind the striker and is unstoppable on his day, so he's one to keep.

Gundogan became to creator and he is very economical. Weigl has a lot of similar attributes to him + can also play the DM role now so that makes selling Gundogan more acceptable for them I think.

I see Bender has been playing CB recently including the draw vs Bayern.

For someone like me that has been brought up on the old WM formation, both 8 and 10 are the numbers inside forwards wear so I am confused.

****er is stealing a wage from us. No idea why that idiot Klopp keeps picking him.
