The only thing missing from Coutinho's game is consistency. That'll come as he gets towards the late 20s.

Madness to sell him and if Barcelona can't be repelled then he goes for BIG money - £70m

Can remember people making similar arguments for selling Suarez, that we'd end up better off. Hmmmmm.

This thread is mental. We are short as it is, yeah lets sell someone else. And Can while we are at it.
I was quite happy to see the back of him as he's a massive bellend and I couldn't be bothered with the circus that surrounded him.

So yes, in one sense, better off without him.

But not in a footballing sense obviously.
      Oh I don't know.

Yeah Suarez did make it tricky with all the biting etc. which did become a bit of a sideshow. A clear footballing genius, the likes of which we may never see again. An absolute headcase also, the likes of which we may never see again.

It's moot though, he wasn't staying once Barca came calling no matter what we thought. And he's won literally everything since he left. We should have got more £s for him in retrospect.

Though he is in a slump right now, it would be insanity to sell Phil.

Couthino is leaving be it this summer or next.....a great player when on form but one who has consistently been Inconsistent......

yeah, I had to laugh when I saw a rumour headline somewhere saying "Barca in shock swoop for coutinho"

I don't think anyone of us will be shocked when it does happen - it's been on the cards for a couple of years...probably the only reason it hasn't happened sooner is Barca waiting for Coutinho to develop/play a bit more here.

He's a class player and I defo don't want him to go but he's not a world beater ala Suarez and we will survive.....if we get a big bid in then all things considered (ie what we paid/got out of him etc) then I suspect the club will sell.

£45m is par value for Coutinho with increasing degrees of outrage or elation on the forum for every pound above or below that

If Danny Rose is valued at 50 million I think we are looking at about 450 million for Coutinho.
                  * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Obviously keeping your best players is paramount but we cannot seem to do that you can understand why. We sign a player and he is a talent or doing very well eventually not competing for trophies is going to grate and heads will be turned.

IMO Coutinho will go, amazing talent but hard to keep the South Americans once the likes of Barca and Real come calling. Someone mentioned Rakitic up there, was having this conversation last week to friends. Rakitic won't be there much longer IMO, he went from looking like an absolute world beater at Sevilla to a utility squad player at Barca... he looks lost in their system. Their style is polar opposite to his style and he's being playing out of position. "if" Phil wants out to Barca and he may well do, getting Rakitic in on that deal might be a shrewd piece of business. His all action counter attacking style would be perfect for Klopp. He is 29 though so Barca would still have to be giving us a serious wedge aswell as the player. No doubts they'll low ball the **** out of us initially.

I always thought Coutinho was a genuine replacement for Iniesta (although long way to go) but style wise he's perfect. To be fair, you wouldn't blame him if he wanted to go there but we need to get the best deal possible. Barca and Real are absolute ****ers for putting the feelers out in the press, starts with their players "Oh i'd love to play with him blah blah", then owners or directors start chipping in. In most cases if Barca want a player, they will get him. It's so hard to build a good side when your best players consistently get sold every season.... very frustrating but players need to want to be here & if their head is elsewhere then it's time to go.

                        Really excellent post Dan.

And you are very right, they are absolute ****ers for putting the feelers out there. One could actually argue that it's a sly form of tapping a player up but nothing can stop him going, I doubt very much he will be here come the summer, I will be very surprised if he is.

Rakitic, I've not seen much of him but the little I have he seems tidy and he could well be a good fit.

it's their way of tapping up players. Don't be surprised if you hear Messi coming out soon saying he has always admired Coutinho blah blah. No doubts Barca will offer us Rakitic and a packet of wine gums For Phil. Them placing an over the top price tag of Rakitic is a fore gone conclusion.

Did Messi not already come out and say he doesn't want Coutinho at Barca?
