Sound logic here - we wouldn't have been losing our best player had they not lost their 3rd best so we need compensating accordingly.
    Hello mert.

Potentially there is huge money involved, but personally I think he'll stay, if the club wants him to stay.
Arsenal seem to be forcing Sanchez to stay, similarly RBL with Keita, Southampton with VVD, Leicester with Mahrez.

Even if Coutinho wants to leave and the club refuse to sell, it is a world cup year, so you'd expect him to work his socks off. Barca have touted his name for a while now, yet he still signed a new contract a few months ago (he would have known that Barca would be in for him).

If we are serious about retaining our players and not being a selling club, this is the perfect opportunity for the Board and FSG to show it, and make a clear statement to all of us. The transfer window has been a disappointing one for us, and selling our gem in the middle would make it one of the worst in recent times.
This season, more than any other it appears clubs actually have more power than players, so we just need to tell Barca to get lost, or come back with a £200M plus bid!

Makes no sense to sell him this season. He is on a long term contract is not likely to create trouble behind the scenes.

We are going to get more money for him next season. Who knows with Neymar pulling the strings at PSG, they might enter the race next summer.

The clubs always had the power, unsure as to why they didn't use it more often before. Only thing that has changed is that even middle to lower table PL clubs now have so much money it's not the incentive it once was.

I genuinely wonder how many players would do a Carlos Tevez and just piss off because they didn't get their move. I reckon it's a very small amount, I think the vast majority of players would stop sulking by mid September and opt to play for their club again rather than sit in the stands on strike.

Clubs should call players bluffs more, I think VVD will be playing for Southampton again come October when he realises it's that or just sit at home.

Premierleague football costs me very little. I attend a couple of matches now and again and watch on my Dad's Sky Go account so the money element doesn't affect me. If I paid a Sky subscription and owned a season ticket is be pretty disgusted by the money involved in transfers.

What other monstrously profitable transfers have happened in the past?

Bale to Real Madrid is one (£7m -> £90m)

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

It's good that we have this qualifier next week, should hopefully put all this cr*p to bed, rather than have it drag on until deadline day.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Why? Playing in them doesn't mean you're ineligible for another team in the CL proper.

you can play in the qualifiers and still play for another club in the CL.
