He is Manager of Liverpool FC and every single thing he says will be highly scrutinised.

He should know by now that saying less is better; I mean he is being caricatured as a David Brent type character in some quarters of the media and with these soundbites he really does not help himself. Hate to say it but it kind of reminds me of Roy.

He should have simply said we are aiming to get into the EL and still have every chance.

Personally I think it sends out the wrong message, clubs' of a smaller stature than LFC expect to be in Europe every year, we should too. Even if the CL is the more immediate goal.

I do agree with Rodgers though that without the distraction of Europe we *should* perform better in the league. That said, is there any statistical analysis that backs up this assumption?!

But on a different note, this no Europe = better league performances gets said many, many times. Not sure it really turns out that way.

when you say media, do you mean fan sites?

              What a good looking question.

I've looked, so therefore the answer is 'probably, but I can't find it'.

I know certain teams stuttered after a European away game and I guess there is the obvious fatigue element. When you look at how Stoke and now Newcastle have seen their league form stutter, it shows that it can be hard to balance freshness and keep a clean bill of health.

Anyway, I think we'll find out next season!

It's very much dampening down expectations by Rogers, not a lack of ambition as i'm sure he'd loved to be involved. Maybe a statement trying to prepare LFC supporters for another year without European Football.

Personally myself i think it would be disastrous as it might be the final straw for certain players. LFC have to be in some sort of European Football.

Most importantly IMO is to keep the talented players at the club, then build on this. I'm not saying all our top talent will leave without European football, but it doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

He is still talking like he is the manager of Swansea. Not qualifying for European football one season is a failed season when you are the manager of Liverpool FC. Then you risk being sacked building season or not.

Rodgers been backed by the owners. It is up to him to deliver.

                    Sorry Brendan.
                    Do. Not. Agree.

Clear effort at reducing expectation. Expectation which is fully justified IMO.

I really wanna be in it to be honest, the atmosphere vs Zenit is a big reason behind.

We can use it to see how we've progressed from this year, players like Shelvey, Wisdom, Sterling, Suso got involved and if they're not on loan then its another opportunity for them.

He's gone from saying we can get top two, then top four, then Europa League qualification, now he seems set we're gonna achieve **** all. He either needs to make his mind up or shut the **** up, or both.
Rome wasn't built in a day, but it wasn't built by the apprentice either.

Yeah, without Europe we could focus on the League, but who the **** is Rodgers to say we could do without it next season? Hodgson was hated for getting us out of Europe, and now Rodgers is saying we could do without it... Liverpool without Europe is like a BLT without the bacon.

BLT without the bacon isn't a BLT, it's just a breaded salad. That's my point.
