He scored 23 and was suspended a lot of games and had almost no service at all from midfield.

If he had played at City, Man U, Chelsea then he could have scored 40+ goals in the league last season.

When Torres scored a lot of goals for us he had a fantastic midfield backing him up. One of the best in the world.

You can't even compare the midfield we had last season backing up Suarez with the one we had backing up Torres.

And yet no Premier League top scorer have been above 40 goals yet, and even in the best playing sides they have scored 32-24 at most - and that was with a better team than we have!

Even if Suarez isn't banned more than the 6 games he is already(!) he would be lucky to go to 30. 40+ is just a ridiculous statement to throw out there tbh. Same with the Coutinho stat, he will be nowhere near 25 assists. Most this season was 13 from a player IIRC.

You are living in football manager land to even think that. And mind it's a 98/99 version you are playing.

I think he will probably score 40+ next season, and while he's sitting out the first six games find a cure for cancer and solve the Syrian issue. He's really that good. In fact, everyone else who has ever played football has been rendered utterly **** in comparison to Suarez.

Arn, this revisionist attitude is doing you no favours at all. Watch the Torres first 50 goals compilation on You Tube again, and see how many were due to his own skill at beating a player and creating an opening. Then check how many were 2 yards tap ins after Gerrard / Alonso / Mascherano / Riera had dribbled around the entire defence.

Also check the stats as to how much better his conversion rates were than Suarez's - arguably, by your measure, Torres would have been more likely to score 40+ goals if he'd had as many attempts on goal as Suarez had. In fact, look at this article which shows that in 2009/10 Torres had a 51% shooting accuracy compared to 31% for Suarez up to November last season, and his chance conversion rate was more than double at 29%.

The fact is that both are tuly sublime players, but very different. At his peak Torres was a more clinical finisher than Suarez, but Suarez has the ability to do things that Torres couldn't. Yes, Torres walked out and treated us like ****, but let's not pretend that he wasn't a ****ing epic player at his peak, and that the Torres of 2008 wouldn't have bagged a similar number of goals as Suarez last season.

I don't think it would be impossible for him to score 40+ goals in the league if he played 35+ league games and took the penalties.

Say that he would have scored 5+ goals in the games he missed last season. Add a few penalties and he would scored around 35 goals.

                  Only five or so missing.

He would have scored 34 goals if he scored EVERY PL penalty we got ladt season and he scored 5 goals in the 5 games he missed. To add another 6+ on to that is utter fantasy

Not if he played with better players IMO.

but if he played with better players, then everything wouldn't have went through Suarez. Every free kick that he wanted to take wouldn't just have been his for the taking. And eventually he would have been told to "fockin pass" as opposed to shooting on sight whenever he wants.....

At the end of the day:

                          1. Suarez is a class player. In the top 10 of the world.
                          2. If he wants to leave then we just need to make sure we get as much money as possible. We should not sell for anything less than £55m / 60m
                          3. We will need to change the way we play when he leaves.
4a. If we can spend the money wisely (Coutinho, Sturridge type signings) then the team might actually be better.
4b. If we don't spend the money wisely (Carroll, Downing type signings) then BR will lose his job and we will be back to sqr-1.

Not since the inception of the PL has a player scored 35 goals in a season. 31 is the most since the season was reduced to 38 games. Suarez is immense but he will never score 40 goals in a 38 game premier league season.

Yep, even Suarez wouldn't be able to do that whilst playing for Real Madrid.
                              Oh I don't know.

What if we'd drawn Norwich in the league cup and FA Cup?
