I answered what I'd like to happen, not what I think is happening

I want him to stay, does the stay and new contract option mean you want him to sign a new contract immediately or just long term, I don't see a need for him to sign new contract now, but I would like him to sign another one which would mean we could keep him beyond his current contract.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

What? A new contract with a buyout price of say €70m to ward clubs off trying to buy him. They pay what we believe he's worth or sod off. Spanish clubs insert ridiculously high fees to force the selling price up for their stars.

we have only just given him an improved contract, and he goes and creates this awful situation.
lets see him repay our loyalty and faith in him by putting in a transfer request so we can bring this to an early conclusion and we can then take the money and rebuild
all this fannying around just leaves a bitter taste and spoils any love we might have had for him.

I support Liverpool Football Club, not Luis Suarez

            Keep this quiet

I support Liverpool too, which is why I want us to keep hold of one of the top 5 players in the world

If he puts in a TR his value could drop though no?

maybe, but any drop will be more than offset with not having to pay up a portion of his outstanding contract.
so maybe we only get 40 instead of 50. if we got 50 we might have to bung him 10 back.

Want him to stay. No guarantee the money that comes in would be spent on someone with his magic. He is in rarefied air as a player; if you can't do better, do not sell.

Him going would only be palatable if we spent all of it on a couple of new players.
Nothing fantasy about that. Want him to stay. I'll understand if he moves on but hope he stays.

I want him to stay, not only because he is brilliant but he is a selling point for future players we are attempting to secure.

'Come to Liverpool and ply your trade with Downing'
No matter how many times you say it doesn't sound convincing.

                            Seems logical enough to me.

On the basis that he is one of the outstanding players in world football, and we don't really know how we'd use the £50million (if we'd even get that), I'd want us to keep him.
