I think perhaps the goals we have away at the weekend highlights that Mignolet is not the only problem and in truth brings more to our defence than some.

Ay least with Mig he does make saves even when the defenders have either switched off or gone walk about, much rather him in goal than Jones who IMO is dreadful.

I'm not a fan of either, but Mignolet despite being **** has some redeeming factors i.e. good shot stopping ability. Jones is poor at everything. My opinion of him as a person has increased ever so slightly, but he's still horrendous. I don't mind him playing now presuming their is a new player coming in during the Jan window. Jones is definitely better, or maybe more comfortable with the ball, there was a moment in the Arsenal game when he hit one into midfield to feet and I was shocked as I can't remember the last time I've seen one of our keepers do that.

I won't be sad when Jones goes though, nowhere near good enough even to be second choice, very amateur. Also he is the only Hodgeson signing still at the club. Once he's gone I won't have a reminder of that **** being Liverpool manager as it'll be erased from my memory. He's a symbol of that horrific period.

All joking aside, whilst Mig was bought in for a decent fee and presumably to be our No. 1 given the Reina debacle he was and is still very much a young keeper with potential (like so many before him) and I just don't think we have been successful developing our GK potential?

It's been said before but the quality of our coaching generally is questionable, goalkeeping and defense in particular could benefit from a complete review?

And yes he had declined but at least he was the correct type of keeper that Rodgers wants and he certainly wouldn't be any worse at stopping shots then Jones is. He'd have been ideal until such time as we find the long term successor which probably won't be until summer.

Agree. If distribution skills and ability to spread the play are fundamentally important enough to Brendan's philosophy to justify dropping Mignolet for Jones, then it's hard to understand why Reina was ditched, wages aside. Yes he had declined, but if Jones is the standard to compare against I'm not sure the wage saving was worth it.

Can only hope we have a long-term term solution lined up.

He didn't slag him off he said Rafa was the best manager he played for. Hardly a crime that. Loads of our fans still think Rafa was the best manager we've had in recent times.Rodgers ego couldn't swallow it though so he let him go. There were more than enough doubts about Mig in the summer to keep Reina around just in case.

I really hope we have someone excellent lined up for January, the timing of Mig's dropping makes no sense if we haven't.

Is right. Reina wanted a move to Barca and so we put the wheels in motion. He started having second thoughts when he realised Barca didn't want him, but his head wasn't at Anfield. A keeper needs extreme focus, Rodgers didn't know his character, so it wasn't a gamble we could take.

Second reason and equally as strong I think, was that he was on a ridiculously high wage. And he wasn't performing of the level required to deserve that wage.

Replacing Reina wasn't a mistake. Replacing him with Migs was the mistake.

Mignolet is a good keeper. But he's not got the ability to play the way we require. We've tried to force the issue, but all it's done is sap his confidence. I don't think he'll ever learn and it's time to end the effort. Time to get a replacement.
