Also has anyone re-watched the 2005 Champions League final recently? Dudek was awful almost the entire game. Complete bag of nerves (although he did a couple of good things late on )

My nephew and I still talk in awe about Westerveld's kicking. He could boot it 30 yards into the opponent's half on a consistent basis. Then came that terrible mistake in the last minute against Bolton and that was that for him

Liverpool have done a terrible job over the years at identifying and signing a quality all round goalkeeper.

Here's hoping they get it right next time
That just goes to show how bad our keepers have been. To be fair James started well but gradually lost his confidence as a young keeper behind a terrible back line culminating with that Leeds corner where he jumped for the ball with his hands in his pockets allowing Lee Chapman to nod home with a how d'ya do on the way. Dudek was great until Forlan diddled him. As you say, Electric Sander went the same way. Reina was great until he suddenly wasn't, as with Brucey.

They all go in the end (bar one or two notable exceptions like Van der Saar) and you have to ship them off but I don't remember many starting as badly as Mignolet. At least the others had a pedestal to fall from.

The only kick I remember of Westerveld is the one he booted straight against an Everton player in a derby. It was in injury time and it went in the net, would have been a winner but thankfully the ref blew for FT before time was up and saved our skin.

Ha, yeah that was Don Hutchison IIRC. Ref was wrong to rule it out as well

Perfect display, not much to do, but what he did have to do he did well. Delighted he's no longer trying to play like Victor Valdes at Barca. Better now he's sticking to what he knows.

My guess is Rodgers knew his formation would leave large gaps until we found the right players and got our balance right and so Migs was brought in to take care of the inevitable ****load of shots that require fast reflex saves.

Now we seem to be more balanced, he can **** off*.

That doesn't sound convincing at all.

I think he's starting to look more assured again personally. Fingers crossed he finishes the season well.

You think so? I disagree - there was a moment in the first half when Can was trying to shepherd the ball back to him expecting him to come out and grab it....the ****er was rooted to his line and Can had to clear.

How did he start his Liverpool career badly? In his very first game he made a number of very good saves not to mention stopping a last minute penalty that ensured we left with a win.

He continued making important saves for the first half of his first season and it was not until the City game in December 2013 that there was a costly mistake of note.

The second half of last season did see him make some errors, but he made more point protecting saves last season than he made errors that cost points. He certainly did not start his Liverpool career in a poor fashion though.

It was the weak hands goal vs City that was his first real error for us he made a few others but he certainly offered more positives last season than negatives.

See what you want to see I guess. He came off his line quite a few times in that second half to clear.

I'm not saying he's amazing, I'm just saying his form is improving and he's starting to look slightly more confident.

Trust me, I do not want to see him stuck on his line. Aside from the penalty he hardly had anything to do last night. As for his form improving, I am genuinely struggling to see it so far.

He was definitely rapid from his line at one point to clear when Costa was put through. Decent game, but he did have basically fk all to do.
