Tbh, he's much better lately. Kind of a chicken or the egg question.

Did he lose his confidence because the defence was poor? Did the defence lose confidence because he was poor? Did they all lose confidence because of the Grand Canyon type hole in our midfield? Is our midfield looking more solid because we have three at the back?

I don't know. But either way he's getting there. Must say, whatever the key factor, I think taking away all the needless back passes has helped. An extra defender who is comfortable like Can has certainly helped build from the back and allowed Migs to only get passed too when he needs to boot it clear.
    Forwards.......

Aye, he might've kept 7 clean sheets, but in the other 20 odd games he's made more than his fair share of cock ups when we've left in 2s and 3s.

As much as he may have improved lately, the bottom line is he is plain crap and completely unsuited to our style of play and the way Rodgers wants to build from the back. Which is what baffles me about us getting rid of Reina, who admittedly has been sub-par in recent years and past his peak, but who surely is more in the mould of what Rodgers wants in a keeper ie good distribution and comfortable on the ball. A decent shot stopper perhaps but all other aspects to his game are seriously deficient. even against Villa who are the softest opponents he will probably face all season he was flapping at crosses. He is ****e and we need much, much better.

Yes he is, if your ambition is to finish 8th in the league on a consistent basis.

He is really far from being fine. In fact I'd go as far as to say he is the worst first team keeper we have had in the last 20 years.

Does anyone consider him better than any of the keepers who have played more than 20 games for us in the last 20 years who I've listed below? I don't.

                David James
                Brad Friedel
                Sander Westerveld
                Jerzy Dudek
                Chris Kirkland
                Jose Reina

David James - As good as if not better
Brad Friedel - Better - Brad played so few games for us
Sander Westerveld - Not much in it
Jerzy Dudek - Average keeper who made some enormous clangers
Chris Kirkland - made of glass and played few games
                  Scott Carson - rubbish
                  Jose Reina
So yes we have had plenty of **** keepers, but Mignolet of last season was easily as good if not better than all bar possibly Reina when at his peak, circa 2006/07.

                    Yes, I do.

The team was all over the place and imbalanced, the back four were running around like headless chickens, our keeper looked ****. But last season, and this season now that we've got Gerrard out of the way of Lucas our defenders are playing better with better cover, then he has been fine. It was never his fault we defended like ****, although it obviously affected his confidence when our CBs gave the ball to the opposition strikers or lost their runners. In a functional team he is a good keeper and replacing him really doesn't need to be a priority for us.

We have bigger problems than Mignolet

Mignolet is a problem & i'm sure it will be addressed properly in the summer.

He's miles better than David James. How Calamity James became a long term keeper at this club is anyone's guess. Hopeless

Also has anyone re-watched the 2005 Champions League final recently? Dudek was awful almost the entire game. Complete bag of nerves (although he did a couple of good things late on )

My nephew and I still talk in awe about Westerveld's kicking. He could boot it 30 yards into the opponent's half on a consistent basis. Then came that terrible mistake in the last minute against Bolton and that was that for him

Liverpool have done a terrible job over the years at identifying and signing a quality all round goalkeeper.

Here's hoping they get it right next time

As with all goal keepers. They all make mistakes.
