Why can't we increase our squad depth in January?

Arsenal have a squad no deeper than ours and lie only 5 points ahead yet people think they'll win the league?

Their midfield is pretty good for sure but take out a couple of key players and they'll wilt too.

I'm watching instanbul again now. If a team with Traore at left back for 45 minutes and centre back for another 75 can win the European Cup anything is possible!

We've not been great at the back, our away form has been poor and yet we're second so only one team has been better than us. A lot will depend on staying injury free and hopefully strengthening midfield and left back in January with first team quality, then we'll have as much chance as anyone.

if were going to have a dip it might be dec-jan,then with some new signings and Gerrard and Sturridge to comeback we can push on from there!

If we win all of them (games over the next month) then we're contenders. If we lose all of them we're not. Anything in between then maybe.

We're on a high at the moment but the next 4 games will be our toughest test and until then we can't get too carried away!

4 points from Spurs and Cardiff would be good enough to keep us round about the position we're in now looking at the fixtures for the teams around us. I can see us dropping out of the top 4 though after the City and Chelsea games, not the end of world and I expect United will be a lot closer to the mix as well.

If we do (and assuming we get Gerrard and Sturridge fit), we could finish anywhere between 1st and 7th to be honest. The league is just so tight, unpredictable, and no one is standing out (possibly Arsenal aside).

I'm delighted with where we're at right now, but a run of bad games and we'll be back in 6th or 7th in no time.

It feels great to still be in contention for a change anyway, it shows the benefits of finally getting of a to a good start! I just hope now that the board back Rodgers in January as a couple of good signings could be absolutely crucial this season!

Agree about making good signings in january, it would be great to sign two quality players to keep everyone fresh for the second half of the season. One attacking signing and maybe a defensive midfielder.

Why Arsenal aside? They're only 5 points ahead.

I just think they stand out as the most impressive side in the league this season, hence being 5 points clear. Same thing applies to them though, an injury to Ozil, Giroud or Ramsey and they could struggle.

I do agree about the left back, but in the order of priorities I'd put him last on the list of these three positions. Flanagan is coping, Cissokho could yet find some form and Kelly as well. Agger and Johnson can also offer some cover.

But regarding the defensive midfielder we are desperately short and we need another source of goals as soon as possible as well.

For us to even consider title talk at the moment we would have to come into the January window in a similar position than we are now. And we would have to play a blinder in the transfer window.

Can't see us going near the title but 4th place is up for grabs. Beating Spurs is absolutely vital...even at this point.

LB,DM & AM have to be sorted in Jan.

Agree a DM would be ideal. Matuidi has apparently been linked and would be perfect but he seems to play most games for PSG so would they really be looking to sell him?
