If someone had said to me at the start of the season that we'd be where we are now, I'd probably have laughed, yet here I sit bitterly disappointed with todays result whilst we're sat at the top of the table with just a couple of games left. Its crazy.

I was unable to watch the game today and had to settle for the radio, which becomes a device of torture during moments like these, every ball kicked sounds incredibly important and every shot is a near miss. The phone in afterwards was possibly even more tortuous with Call Collymore attracting many a cretin fighting for their 15 minutes of fame. One caller had me reaching for the mute button, a Chelsea fan claiming firstly that Brendan was classless in saying that Chelsea had "parked the bus" and then secondly that "what Mourinho had achieved this season was nothing short of a miracle with this squad." My head nearly exploded at this point, but then Collymore said that he completely agreed! What followed was a complete Mourihno wankfest which followed into the next show.

I've always said that mediocre tacticians can build a team to defend well and that only the best managers can build a team to defend and attack. You only have to look at the likes of Pulis, Alladyce and Hodgson to see that, but the difference is that they tend to do this at squads with few resources. Mourinho adopts the same tactics with some of the worlds best players, with one of the most expensive collection of players in English history, so is he really a great tactician or just a great manager? Adopting this style of football with such riches will always return silverware, but is it really a tactical masterclass? I think not.

If I'm being fair, my belief has to be applied to Rogers too. At times this season we've been exceptional moving forward, but also really awful at the back, and this is something we need to work on. To be fair though, with the resources we have (financially speaking) I really don't think we'd be near where we are now if didn't adopt the principle of scoring more than them. Anymore conservative and we'd probably be hovering around 4th spot. My fear though is that this season we've managed to catch a ten year wave and if we leave it empty handed it could be another 10 years before it happens again and that would hurt like hell. I really want Gerrard to lift the trophy.

God I hate Chelsea, hypocrisy seems to be deeply rooted in the psyche of everyone one at the club.

Can't believe people saying we should have sat back. We did everything right other than we made poor decisions on the ball in the final third. We could've sat back and Chelsea would always have had a set piece or a shot from distance that can go anywhere. Even when we were deep they had that shot across goal Migs did well to save and then the Kalas chance.

We were right to press for the win. We only over pressed as the game dragged on in the second half and only suicidal levels in injury time. We always had players back to counter Chelsea venture forwards and quickly got our shape.

The simple fact is we did everything right, up until Gerrard took his eye off the ball and the ball rolled under his foot. Even at that point Ba has to take him on, another player would have got back and it's chance over. But it was compounded by Gerrard panicking and then slipping.

It's horrible, but thank **** it wasn't Allen or Sakho or someone else, they'd have been ****ing crucified.
      Forwards.......

I was happy when i saw it wasnt going to be howard webb or phil mason being the ref....but i think atkinson was a joke today. To book their player in the 92nd minute for wasting time was a ****ing disgrace. He wasted more time in injury time...... not that it mattered at this stage but all the pointing to the watch in the firdt half was a joke. He basically said to Shwartzer, "i know you are fowling" - well guess what, book him in the 5th minute and he wont do it for the rest of the game.....

I think we are starting to look tired as well to be honest....the lack of squad depth is starting to show. Its a pity we seem to have just run out of steam....

we looked leggy against, Norwich & today; Hendo missing has been crucial to our tempo

Our strike force have definitely dropped off over the last month and a half. Hopefully they get their mojo back for the final two games cos we need a **** load of goals to keep the pressure on.

I know it's irrelevant but wasn't Torres offside when he received the pass that lead up to the second goal? I haven't seen anyone mention this, sure don't remember the commentators mentioning this.

Ref was useless should have started booking Chelsea players from the start for time wasting. Disgraceful.

Why was Lucas playing an advanced role? If anything we should have had 2 mids sit back to protect, we didn't need to win.

Why didn't he shoot early second half too. I know he was offside but nobody flagged. Have a go and see what happens.

He was in his own half wasn't he? Therefore he couldn't be offiside
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Its a free kick everywhere else on the pitch. It is therefore a penalty.

God I thought I had heard some nonsense in the two calls on five live when I was driving back to work (Split shift after a potential title losing defeat is a real ****ing pain I'll tell you that).

If anyone is annoyed at some of the garbage in this thread listen to it on catch up. Less guff on that.

Who knows what the **** can happen next season. Bring it the **** on

(and this seasons not over yet anyways btw )

Whether we win the title this season or not it has been one hell of a ride and personally has gone a major way toward restoring my love for this game. Sure it doesn't feel like fun right now, but objectively we've pulled off something nobody thought remotely possible and will be competing for the title right up until the last kick of the season. And there might still be that one last twist.

In general though, we have so much to be proud of, and are so far ahead of where the blueprint says we should be, that we have every reason to be optimistic about the future. Who cares if other teams will strengthen, our squad has been absurdly thin compared to our rivals this year, and that gap will be closed in the summer. Our defence really has not been even close to that of a title winning side, we will surely be much better in that area next year. And Brendan will have learned so much from this experience that he is sure to be a better manager going forward. Next time Mourinho comes to park the bus we'll do him over, mark my words.
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
                            Mine angry and defrauded young?

good summary and balance Mr M.

it feels like we have been kicked in the balls and stamped on, but hey, we are still alive.
we are doing so much better than we could have hoped for and it felt like we had one hand on the premiership trophy. we have been away so long, the hillsborough anniversary and new inquests, gerrard maybe having his last chance at being a prem winner, so many things...
to have it almost wrenched from our fingertips is so hard to take.
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.
