Liverpool U21s have announced a special visit to the USA in May where they will play two friendly fixtures in California and Nevada against 2014 United Soccer League Champions Sacramento Republic FC.

The opening game is at Republic FC’s home pitch at Bonney Field on Saturday May 21 at 7.30pm and will be followed by a second match at Greater Nevada Field, Reno on Wednesday May 25 at 7pm (all local times).

Commenting on the forthcoming trip, academy director Alex Inglethorpe said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our U21s to gain valuable experience competing against quality opposition in the USA.

“The tour will also provide players and staff with a wonderful opportunity to meet the many Liverpool supporters in the USA ahead of the first team’s visit this summer.”

Paul Buckle, Sacramento Republic FC technical director and head coach, said: “These matches provide a massive opportunity for our fans to see the players currently coming through the ranks at Liverpool Football Club.

"There will be some serious talent on show in this next generation of players and they will prove a big test for us. This will also be another step in the right direction for our club.”

        FT Chelsea 2 - 2 Liverpool

        -----------Kelleher
        A-Arnold Parker Whelan Lewis
        ------------Coyle
        ---------Kane Ejaria
        ----------Phillips
        ------Lennon Woodburn

Subs Atherton, Masterson, Owens, Alves, T.Gomes

Cracking game if you were a neutral, if not then you'd be a bit annoyed. Twice Liverpool took the lead with first class goals and twice they got pegged by by much lesser efforts. The midfield was a class above Chelseas with Philips and Ejaria in particular displaying a range of short and long passing that was at times sublime, they'll both be moved up to the U21s. Brookes Lennon did everything but score (though he did get the assist for the second) with Chelsea's stopper Baxter inspired as he threw himself at everything - sometimes twice. Liverpool were fairly rampant and creating chances for fun esp in the latter stages of the first half and early in the second before Chelsea gained some late momentum. By the end it was end to end stuff. I've noticed the diamond is creeping in as a formation, typically they play 4-3-3.

Our forgotten man (couldn't be bothered finding his thread) Tiago Ilori is apparently moving to Deportivo, permanently. Good luck to him, hope he finally gets his chance.

While the official season is over Liverpool U21s played Chesterfield U21s in a fund raiser for the League One's Academy side this evening - winning 5-0, the home sides best chance came when Bodgan kicked out to a Spireites player!

Liverpool: Bogdan (gk), Lewis, Hart, Brewitt, Jones, Virtue, Kent, Gomez, Lennon x2, Phillips, Texeira

Subs: Whelan, Ejaria, Maguire, Polgar, Sinclair, O'Hanlon Alves, Firth (gk)

The whole game, played on a flipping baseball pitch.

First goal by Ryan Kent at 19m 50s nicely taken. Daniel Tricket-Smith or "DTS!" equalises in 53rd minute, Brannagan with a lovely individual goal from 1hr 48 (the stream was continuous through half time), then the equaliser in 2hr and 2 mins.

If Canos buggers off he'll be Liverpool's second best young prospect (after Ojo obviously).

Branners from that game - always looking to lay the ball of with his second touch, which is nice to see.
