Don't come to that conclusion without investigating further.

We promote a lot of our best U18s up a level and promote all the way through to the first team squad.

    Man City don't.

At that level it's quite easy to end up with a complete mismatch.

The score doesn't necessarily reflect the quality we have at that level.

I reckoned that was a factor yesterday - I've not checked fully but the line up looked pretty young/inexperienced at this level and when the likes of Woodburn at 16 are now playing for the U23s you'll get talent "gaps" like this appearing.

Yep wouldn't be surprised if we trying out 14/15 year olds to give them some serious experience.

Ah now it wasn't that young a team, they'd be traumatised for life!

Yeah you're right. Mostly 17 year olds with one 15 year old. But they beat Utd the week before ergo the lads are heroes regardless of this result.

Seems a bit weird referring to a youth team that is now U23

The Premier League Cup (which is not the Johnstone's Paint Trophy thing) group stage sees Liverpool with Huddersfield Town (LFC and HTFC seem to be hand in glove these days!) Ipswich Town, and WBA.

Liverpools U23 played Brentford B yesterday in what I presume was a friendly - the Bees were 2-0 up before Ben Woodburn was sprung from the bench with 30 left on the clock to score a brace. The game ended 2-2 and a peno shootout (for fun?) which Brentford won 5-4.

Hard not to get a bit carried away with Woodburn the way he's playing.

Theoretically he could be the perfect replacement for Coutinho if we decided to cash in in a year or two. Obviously we've been here hundreds of times before, so I'll curtail my excitement for now.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Woodburn is causing the same stir as Harry Wilson and Ryan Kent before him. Hopefully all three can realise their full potential quickly.

FFS. I'm having a cheeky pint on the south bank waiting for Mrs Venton to pitch up. Seeing the U18s are 2-0 up against Stoke I thought I'd ask for the pub WiFi password so I could watch the match on my phone through the miracle of modern technology. After 20 minutes of faffing about trying to get it to work I finally get through only to see Stoke score at that VERY second. Which is a long-winded way of saying it's 2-1.

The WiFi went down. I'm blind. Sounds like it's for the best

Apart from that horror show against Man City they are going well this season 4 games, 3 wins.
