Sure its a lot more nuanced but on the face of it, I am staggered that not just our but all premier league u21's get battered every week by League 1/2 clubs whenever this competition is on.
Surely the next generation should be able to beat these teams.....Although half the players probably end up playing at this level so maybe thats my own question answered

We’ve pinched another talented youth player from Man City
Last year, Liverpool confirmed a deal to sign Lucas Clarke from Manchester City. The defender made the switch to the Reds and has since become an U18 player after initially joining the U16 side.
Clarke's signing was a huge coup for the Reds. He's someone who is showing great potential already and could potentially be a future first team player if he continues his development.
Now following on from Clarke's example, Liverpool have landed another talented gem from Manchester City.
City's academy midfield sensation Lucas Alford confirmed on his Instagram account that he will be joining Liverpool. Wearing the club's training kit and signing terms with the Reds, Liverpool may have landed another massive coup.
Alford will be linking up with the club's U16 side and he's a very highly rated midfielder. He's captained City at youth levels and has caught the eye at several major youth tournaments over the last year.
He can play as a no.8 and as a holding midfielder as well. Alford will be joining an already very talented group at academy level that includes Joshua Abe, Erik Farkas and Vincent Joseph.
It's another wonderkid signing for Liverpool from their new rivals, and this is a trend that could follow with the pathway much clearer at the Reds than at City.

Originally posted by peterbread View PostTargeting City and Chelsea’s academy’s is a smart move. They realistically won’t get chances and are likely to be sold for profit looking at how they both use their academies. They both produce very good players so the club should definitely take advantage of that.

Jayden Danns scored a goal and provide an assist while Kaide Gordon scored twice and set up a third as Liverpool Under-21s beat Bolton Wanderers 4-1 in a friendly today.
Kareem Ahmed was also on the scoresheet as he comes ON from the bench.
Up the reds ❗

Will Wright injury update – how long will he be sidelined?
In the latest instalment of Liverpool Confidential for Mail Sport, Lewis Steele provided an update on the ex-Salford striker’s body blow, and a timeframe has now been put on the 17-year-old’s recovery.
The journalist indicated that Wright is ‘expected’ to be sidelined ‘for five to seven weeks’ with a medial ligament injury, which has been described as ‘a relief as the immediate reaction was that it could be something significantly longer’.Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

[James Pearce] Jayden Danns facing an extended spell on the sidelines. Damaged his hamstring playing for the u21s against Ipswich Town last weekend. Cruel setback given how good he looked off the bench for first team v Southampton in Carabao Cup.
He’s starting to miss a lot of crucial time in his development with this injury and the one last season.

Just watched the highlights of the U21’s vs Crewe in the Vertu Trophy. We lost 2-0 but played really well. The ref gave them a penalty for their 1st which was harsh to say the least. Kaide Gordon left his shooting boots at home unfortunately but Trent Kone Dougherty the young Irishman certainly looks a prospect on the left. Their keeper was definitely the busier of the two.Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.
