It all depends on if Virgil stays fit anyway. Without him we are ****ed no matter if we have Lovren or not.

But with him we will be fine. You could put Stephen Hawking next to VVD and we'd be one of the best defences in the league.

Going into effectively the whole season with just 5 senior defenders seems crazy to me. No matter how good you think the kids are it's one hell of a gamble particularly when Gomez and Matip have a record of injury problems
This is the worry for me. Also in midfield Keita, Lallana, Hendo, Ox all injury prone too. So risky

Stevie H’s positioning was hopeless - all Heisenberg uncertainty and wave/particle duality. Glad we got rid.

Hoever really does look incredible but he's 17! Van Den Berg is also 17.

Of our five remaining "senior defenders" Trent is still only 20 and Joe Gomez is 22.

That would have to be the youngest defence in the Premier League history?

I dont have a problem with the age of TAA or Gomez. Both have shown they are top level players.

I know 17 is young. But they will learn tons training and playing with the best defence in World football currently. Itll be almost impossible not too.
            *Except Michael, who died.

Gomez, Matip and Trent (to a lesser extent) have all been injury prone. I'm happy we are selling Lovren but I'd like to have got cover - someone like a Klavan a reliable old pro

Just pointing out that Trent and Gomez (almost feels younger because of the time lost to injuries) are not exactly seasoned pros. Neither have yet played 100 professional games.

I can understand letting Lovren go from a human and financial perspective, but when he's gone we have....

Van Dijk, Matip, Gomez, Trent and Robertson.

5 senior pros for 4 starting spots.

After that it's 17 year olds in defence when you're trying to get 100 points in the league?

                  Wow.

Side note but it's a strange thing that starting from keeper, through defence, midfield and attack the normal age at which you breakthrough tends to get younger. A 17 year old attacker feels normal, but a 17 year old CB/keeper seems risky.

And Milner can play both full back roles, Fabinho can also play at either center back or right back.

Yeah but I hope we don’t see either of them have to play there, but especially Fab. Millie could struggle if needed to play there for any length of time & we loose our rock in midfield if Fab moves back.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Milner is fair game, in fact I think he'll have more appearances there than in midfield due to the numbers in defence vs attack.

I don't think anyone wants to see it happen. I suppose the point I was trying to make is that perhaps Klopp would prefer a Virgil - Fabinho partnership in defence with Hendo at #6 rather than Lovren Virgil with Fabinho in front.

And if that is the case, then we don't really need Lovren as he is effectively 5th choice defender then.

I think if Lovren had the possibility of playing another position - like full back - then he'd be more valuable. But he cant
