I don't think he can play one of the wide centre back roles, IMO he needs to play in the middle of the back 3. I think the performance Skrtel put in today was what we were hoping to get from Lovren when we paid £20m for him, the problem is he is so far behind Skrtel he shouldn't get near the side when Skrtel in available.

Good 2nd half, it was never handball and this place went completely OTT, some ****e was spouted. He has been poor and found the first half difficult but so did Can and Skrtel.Vive la FranceComment

So, I take it we got a clean sheet playing with just 2 at the back then? Or is there just a bit of over-reaction going on? I watched the game, and baring the first 20 mins I was never overly worried that Southampton would score...so why all the vitriol that's being spouted?

I don't think it's unfair to say Lovren struggled in the first half. Lack of game time could explain that, but he struggled on a wet surface and played it safe when in possession. We shoved one of our best performers over to the left to accommodate him and we looked shaky until Rodgers tweaked things at half time.Comment
